My wife's parkinson's disease is very rapidly progressing

Posted by chingparkinson @chingparkinson, Mar 16 9:16am

Wy wife having parkinson, no specialist doctor, even no Neuro doctor available here.
She is taking Levodopa 0.25 mg4 times a day, pramipex twice, Amantadine thrice. She cannot walk without support.
What should i do ?

It is so important to get a Movement Disorder Neurologist to see her and confirm the diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Very rapid progression may indicate Multiple System Atrophy instead of PD and in that case Levo-Dopa does not help much. Look for help outside your immediate area and good luck.

I agree with @bmfoster. It is important to find a Movement Disorder Neurologist. Admittedly, they are not easy to find. My wife has Parkinson's and is tremendously helped by her neurologist and nurse practitioner. It is worth a long, long drive to find the right one. My wife often has virtual follow up appointments. Wishing both of you well.

There are a number of so-called Parkinson’s Plus diseases that progress more quickly than the more common Parkinson’s disease and which do not respond to the Parkinson’s meds. Particularly in the early stages, these diseases are not easily diagnosed. If possible, it would be best to consult a specialist for the diagnosis. I have a family member with one of these diseases who traveled for the initial diagnosis but who now uses video visits for the follow-ups.
