@dyannhill, there are several discussions where members are talking about difficulty swallowing - also called dysphasia. You might find helpful comments exploring these discussions by search keyword:

- Dysphagia https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/post-covid-recovery-covid-19/?search=Dysphagia&index=discussions

- Difficult swallowing https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/post-covid-recovery-covid-19/?search=difficult+swallow&index=discussions

Once your doctor has ruled out any medical issue causing your swallowing difficulties, you may also wish to consult with a speech language pathologist. They help with swallowing issues.

Steroids helped me swallow better. It is still not normal, but better because the steroids help with inflammation. From the research I have done covid attacks the vagus nerve and that nerve controls swallowing along with many other functions.I lost so much weight from not being able to eat.I had to live off ensure. No doctor could figure out what was wrong until my primary thought to give me steroids.

I have experienced the feeling of “forgetting” how to breathe and walking periodically. It’s like my brain forgets how to do basic functions.

Same over here constant throat clearing feels like GI phlegm in back of throat. Choking on water pills and food! Pulm doctor recommended ENT, normal findings next GI pill cam study.

Hi Everyone, I had Covid and have Sjogrens. I sip water all day and spray my mouth with biotene mouth spray before I take a pill. The mouth spray helps with coughing and has helped me a lot.
Maybe it would work for you. It runs about $6.99 and isn't prescription.

An ENT can hook you up with a professional who will help you get your swallowing mechanism back to “normal.” It’s like PT for the throat. Good luck.

I had this as well.Forgetting how to breathe and trouble walking.I still have trouble walking and have lost strength in the trunk of my body.I dont know if you are still having trouble breathing, but it should eventually go back to normal.I believe this is all from the vagus nerve being attacked by covid. The vagus nerve controls so much.I have completely lost my gag reflex.Even if I had to throw up I can't.The strength in the muscles and the signals are gone. The Doctors do not know much about the vagus nerve or long covid. It is so frustrating.
