My partner thinks my depression is a cop out

Posted by kendrick55 @kendrick55, Mar 11 11:26am

My partner thinks I use my depression as an excuse not to be intimate with him. He won't go to any of my appointments with me and he thinks that his physical needs are more important than my having depression. I don't want to be alone at the same time he makes me feel worst than I'm already feeling.

I am so sorry for you. Years back I was in a relationship (which retrospectively I should not have started because of my then issues). I had started having a physical problem before but never imagine it would continue for years nor get as serious as it did.
My problem was physical but it definitely seriously affected my psyche and I became severely clinically depressed. “Situational” depression.
He just did not “get it”, understand it and I should just snap out of it.
It doesn’t work that way, as many of us know. Fortunately I finally got the actual cause diagnosed, found the correct specialists, multiple surgeries and I got better.
The relationship didn’t survive and that was truly best for both of us.
I wish you well and strength in dealing with this dilemma.
