Has he started treatment yet? There are various treatments for polymyositis and PT helps also. I don’t have polymyositis per se, but I have autoimmune “overlap syndrome” (aspects of different autoimmune diseases but not a specific diagnosis) which includes profound weakness of both legs when I try to taper from steroids. I take immunosuppressive medication (Medrol, Methotrexate and Cosentyx infusions) and I’ve been in PT twice a week for the last year to build leg strength. Swimming also helped me build l stamina without causing any pain. I started with 15 mins and gradually built to 45 mins. It might take a little time to find the right combination of drugs for him, but hopefully he’ll be feeling better and can build back his strength once he finds the right drug. Wishing both of you the very best on this journey.
Thanks for sharing. Hopefully we will receive more specifics on his illness soon. Insurance has been an issue with equipment and providers. I’m a retired ICU nurse and his advocate. Not smooth sailing
