My 2nd cervical epidural did nothing for my chronic pain. Skiull pain

Posted by fransherrell @fransherrell, 19 hours ago

I am experiencing what I suspect to be an after effect from a cervical epidural…tenderness and swelling in the skull area above the area in my neck where I have chronic pain. Anyone have this occur? The epidural (my 2nd) did nothing to reduce the pain!

@fransherrell If I had a reaction like that to an epidural injection, I would be calling the doctor. Swelling may indicate an allergic reaction or an infection. I did have a bad reaction to an epidural that I think was an allergic reaction to the material injected. It gave me random zapping burning electric shocks that went for 6 weeks. That is how long it takes the body to dissolve and clear out the steroids.

Thank you! I do have a voicemail into my pain surgeon’s office…It’s a Saturday and this condition has steadily gotten worse since Thursday. I intend to find some help on Monday. I had 2 minor strokes many years ago, so I’m a bit concerned.

How long ago did you have your recent cervical epidural? What levels do you have compressed in your cervical spine and is your spinal cord compressed/flattened?

Did you have cervical spine surgery?

Inflammation and compression in your cervical spine can definitely contribute to pressure in your head. When was your last MRI? You may need updated imaging to ensure the epidurals did not cause any problems. Too many steroid injections can weaken the joints in your spine and can injure nerves.

Since you have had strokes in the past and now have pressure in your skull, I would call your emergency on call doctor TODAY to ask them if you should go to the emergency room TODAY to ensure you do not have a blood clot from the injection!!
