What kind of a doctor deals with muscle spasms?

Does anyone know what kind of a doctor deals with muscle spasms? I get one in one spot on my back about every three months. They are unbearably painful and they last for 4-6 weeks during which time I have to sit in my chair with my heating pad and do nothing. I am 82 and this is not how I planned to spend my last days! I cry.

I use Soma 350 and skelaxin 800 mgs. Skelaxin works better for my back muscle spasms. Soma works better on my hands and legs.

What do you know about the Botox injections? I've heard of it, but know nothing..

I've been to several movement disorder neurology specialist.

Botox did nothing for me except to separate me from approx. $1000 per session even with insurance.

I had terrible muscle spasms around my shoulder blade and down through my rib cage. Acupuncture with a doctor of Acupuncture, not a medical doctor, helped me. No more spasms. It is not instantaneous, it is a journey, but I don’t have them anymore. Worth a try. Also when you get the , every 3-4 months, is there any activity you’ve done? During that period that would kick off the spasm. I found , through many episodes of spasms getting started that I had been doing certain movements & activity prior to having a Spasm episode. It definitely is a journey. Good luck and blessings.

Thanks, no, I didn't do anything to bring it on. This happens a few times a year now for 25 years. They last anywhere from two weeks to 2 months in which time I can't do anything except lie on my heating pad. Nothing fixes it. Pills don't touch it. Doctors keep giving me shots that don't work. I've about had it.....

@ksdm , Where is your spasms? How is your magnesium level? Low magnesium relate ‘some’ to spasms. Maybe when you are having a spasm episode you could have your magnesium level checked. Blood test for low magnesium is Not included in your yearly bloodwork. Also Vitamin D deficiency can possibly be a culprit.

I was taking vit. D and my level was too high so my doctor told me to stop taking it. The only magnesium I take is one 100mg gummie. I tried taking more but it gives me stomach trouble! My spasm is mid back, near my spine just under my "wing". Groan....!

I’ll keep you in my prayers. It sounds like yours is in the same general area as mine. I am learning what I can and cannot do. I cannot reach out and do movement like washing windows with right arm or lift heavy things. Mind started from my mastectomy. Working on breaking up scar tissue. It’s much improved, but has taken time.
