Mucus in throat but lungs and sinuses clear
I have a problem that has been going on for months now. Mucus build in my lower throat. I can feel it rattling if I breathe through my mouth but not if I breathe through my nose. My sinuses are clear and my lungs seem fine. I cough up clear or occasionally light yellow tinged mucus. Worse at night when I am horizontal. I live in Florida where we have nearly year round pollen. Taking Zyrtec and Flonase. Not sure what to do about this.

I have this same thing and I have been telling doctors about it for a year finally after sudden hearing loss they are starting to listen but not soon enough.
I just read alot of research about how this could be LPR also known as Respiratory Reflux. It suggests treating allergies, changing to a low acid diet and raise the head of your bed!!! It said after long term mucous production can cause hearing problems. It mentioned Silent Nocturnal Respiratory Reflux.
I am reading alot and I am going to try to raise the head of my bed. I have hoarseness , occasional trouble swallowing, I never have heartburn but I do have mucus stuck in my throat. the doctors kept telling me it was from my lungs and I keep telling them NO it isn't. Then they said TMJ, on and on. Does anyone else have ideas.
I do same..im in middle of Dr's. Appointments but I kno mine is results from a small gas leak in my apartment. 6 weeks of it...
Hard to find..thought I had allergies, flu, pneumonia,bronchitis..post nasal drip is drowning me...
I have mucus in my throat also with lungs and sinuses clear. I have had this condition ever since I could remember, maybe since I was 5 or 6 years old, I am now 76.
I need to suck up the mucus and get it out always need to use a tissue because it's thick, and usualy not too much, but it's almost constant. There is no caugh, no running nose, nothing else, and I am very healthy otherwise.
@nini24 are you hydrating well? i got advice about hydration, I doubled my water intake and it helped me quite a bit. Do you have dry mouth? That can be the culprit too.
@nini24 my ENT told me that the thick mucus is being generated to protect my esophagus from being burned from excessive gastric acid.
He told me to take 3ml of liquid Mylanta before going to bed. It has really helped.

1 ReactionHi. Suffered with all of this for 50 years. Please check out https://jamiekoufman.com
Her way of treating this has helped me more than any doctor I have seen. And I have seen quite a few over the years. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me. For some, like myself, it is a lifelong ailment that can't be "cured ", but it can be treated and managed quite well. Good luck to you.
