Mouth rinse with coconut oil for oral lichen planus

Posted by fdixon63 @fdixon63, 2 days ago

Has anyone tried swishing coconut oil to help OLP? I heard about this recently. I don't know if you are to rinse with water afterwards or not. My OLP is not too bad at the moment except I have to wear a partial and it keeps one spot tender all the time. Yes, I've had the dentist look at it and adjust but can't get beyond that. So, look forward to hearing if any others have tried this to sooth OLP. Thanks.

@fdixon63 please spit the coconut oil out into to trash, not your sink, etc. It could harden and clog your plumbing.

I have used coconut oil to whiten my teeth only.

Does that work and how often do you use it? Does it affect crowns or partials, etc. Wow, learning all sorts of stuff. Thanks SusanEllen66.

My experience… I use oil pulling for Sjogren’s symptoms.
I swish and spit a tsp for 10-20 minutes every night after flossing, using the waterpick, and brushing (with Sonicare.) The next morning I have little or no grit on my teeth.
I start by setting a timer and then I do my chores while swishing until the timer goes off.
There’s research on oil pulling on the Cleveland Clinic website, it explains a lot more.
Plaque is bacteria and oil pulling removes the bacteria, do not swallow.
I’ll brush, swish and spit during the day if food is sticking to my teeth.
When done I wipe the coconut oil off my teeth because I don’t like the taste.
Do not spit in sink or toilet, it’s bad for the plumbing.
I believe my dry mouth symptoms are more manageable except during dry and/or very hot weather.

@fdixon63 I does indeed whiten natural teeth. The process is a bit annoying.
Everyday, put about 1/2 t. spoon of oil in your mouth and swish it around for 20 MINUTES!
The time is the tough part, and it takes determination.

My cousin who is around 40 is a model. She does it to keep her teeth white.
