Months of Chest Pain - Please help

Posted by capt209 @capt209, Nov 19, 2017

Hello all,

My name is Brandon and I’m a 34 year old male. I’m excited to get signed up on here and hopeful this may help my anxiety which is through the roof! I have been through ongoing chest pain for the past 4 months. The pain started off as a pinch on the left side of chest. It evolved into a pinch and pressure onto the right side of chest. It would be nearly daily, but didn’t really get worse after meals or doing a lot of exercising. The pain then started radiating to my shoulders and sometimes into my arms but rarely. Now, it radiates into my jaw occasionally. I get a wierd fluttering in my chest occasionally when I lay down, but when i sit up and get doing stuff I don’t realize it much. Now the chest pain mainly feels like pressure in my chest snd i get occsssional sharp pains on the lower portion of my ribs and sometimes on each side of my sternum. What could this be?

Here’s what all I’ve had done….
CT scan of heart and heart echo – found i have a slightly dialated aerota at the base that they will monitor yearly. I also have a bicuspid aerota valve with moderate regurgitation. Cardiologist does not think my heart is causing the pains. I have no blockages at all and they aren’t concerned at all of a heart attack.

I was scoped and found i have a moderate to large hiatal hernia and esophagitas. They also did a manometry test and found I was having esophogas spasms. I am set to have a bravo test this week to see if acid reflux might be the cause. I bet that will show that is the case because I’ve had acid reflux since my late teens / early 20s.

During my CT scan, they saw a slightly enlarged lymphnode…which i think was on the right side of my chest. They said they would recheck that in 6 months. I had a cold or infection during that test and had some congestion and they say that may of been the reason for that.

I have been on a proton pump inhibitor, zantac and tums as needed but i haven’t really noticed much of an improvement on them, if at all.

I have back problems and a neck injury as well. They also think that may be the cause of the chest pain. I had an MRI which did not show any nerve compression but I am constantly battling neck and back pain, sometimes severe.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks all,
Brandon

No, am in NY State…the Southern Tier. 2 hours from Buffalo and Rochester. The Dr knows…I will never take Monurol again. Just praying I can eventually get some nutrition I to me!! Losing half a pound a day is pretty scary…when it has been months!! The colonoscopy got scheduled!! This Wednesday at 12:30. Hope they find something that is treatable…though I expect them to say "all normal!!" Praying I get admitted to Strong Memorial's Gastro Dept if that happens!!!

Thank you! The prep is going to be really tough as I am SO weak! Because I am so nauseous, I am concerned that the solution will stay down long enough to go throughout! Prayers appreciated!!

Thank you for asking. Prep was really tough…test was OK, though I was extremely nauseous as I have been for months. Dr. Removed a polyp and I am waiting for report. He feels everything is OK. He prescribed mea med for IBS. It isn't doing anything much! Still nauseous. Months of feeling like I have the stomach flu…but can't throw up!!! My insurance denied my going to Cleveland Clinic, and he doesn't feel I need to be in the hospital here, even with the extreme weight loss. My discharge orders were to drink more Ensure and eat a lot more protein. (Just what you want when you feel like hanging your head over a bucket!!) Sure wish these Drs would have to spend one day like this!!! Am really discouraged!!! Not much hope here!! SO looking forward to heaven!!

Thanks for checking on me! Bless you!!!

Have the doctors considered food allergies? Someone I used to work with had started a company about food allergies — I'm not sure if she's still running it, but what you're going through seems similar to things she encountered. I've reached out to her to see if she may be able to give you any insight.

No! They just keep trying anti-nausea meds which only make me worse!! Months and months of severe nausea really does a number on your mind!!!

I have a lot of the same issues. I am 35 y/o male. For months now I have dealt with random chest pain/discomfort. These can sometimes last the majority of the day. Occasionally, this discomfort will be accompanied by a sensation in my left arm. It almost feels like the muscle is going numb. Also, the chest discomfort can radiate into my back. I've found that my resting HR can frequent dip into the low 40s. More nights than not I will wake up with these chest issues. This sets off the anxiety and it's all downhill from there. GP sent me to cardiologist. Holter monitor and echo stress test. Can't seem to diagnose anything. Does anyone have any insight into what could be going on if it's non-cardio as they are suggesting? I am sick of reading the same old "your chest pain could be serious, go see a doctor". The anxiety makes sleep almost impossible since I'm convinced I'll have a heart attack in my sleep. One weird part of this is the fact that when my HR is elevated in excersise, I feel the best. The chest pain is gone, and stays fine for a while. Worst time is when I'm completely at rest. I hope someone has some insight.

Hello jdad2018. I have exactly the same issues. Chest pain or better discmfort either below the left nipple or mid chest heaviness or some discomfort on upper left back. It comes every day from 9am untill night sleep. Mornig is ok. That feeling make me dizzy and afraid for fainting. Afraid to drive, go out, travel, etc and the way of leaving became horrible. I have done all cardiac (multiple EKGs, blood tests many times, stress test with nuclear, holter, CT angiogram, echo) and came back normal. Also I had all gastro (endoscopy, fluroscpy, colonoscpy) and are also normal. Further a couple of CTs on chest including almost all organs came back good. However, the feeling of discomfort has been dereriorated ( I have it more than a year). Also I notice that while at gym (almost daily running 3km) I feel no problem. But after few hours start again. I have some relief by placing capsicum pluster under left armpit close to chest, please update me for your case.

Anyone heard anything from Brandon? I would really like to know how he’s doing seeing how we have a lot of the same symptoms! Heart doctor said she was 100% sure it wasn’t my heart. I’m not so sure. Just read an article about the number one malpractice lawsuit and it’s misdiagnosed heart attacks! Didn’t help my feelings one bit. Lol trying to stay positive and deal with the pain most every day. Hope all of y’all are doing better.

Hello everyone, I’m new to this but wanted to join as my anxiety is killing me. I have chest pain that radiates to shoulder and arm, I’ve had all the tests for heart attack and everything comes back normal. I do have GERD and take nexium for it daily, but my chest and shoulder still hurt. I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety and I take Prozac for it but it doesn’t seem to help. I would love to get some help on this, I really feel like I can’t live a normal life. Thanks everyone!

Hope all is doing well! I am still suffering from daily chest pain most everyday. It moves around some it hurts high in my chest mostly on the left side at my collarbone and sometimes it hurts on the right side into my shoulder and neck. The pain is constant. I have had at least ten EKGs an exercise stress test a nuclear stress test blood tests all come back normal. Sometimes it hurts into my shoulder blades. If I eat a big meal I feel like I’m going to pop and then oressure is bad until I vomit then I normally get some relief. I take a baby aspirin everyday even though my cardiologist said I didn’t need to. Lisinopril hydrochlorathiazide combo. My blood pressure is great most all of the time now. I wore a heart monitor for two weeks and they said I have PVCs that I can feel every time they happen. I have had hours of PVCs that happen every few seconds. They put me on metoprolol and that seemed to have slowed the PVCs. I can walk or exercise and it doesn’t change the chest pains any. My cardiologist said she was 100% sure it wasn’t my heart. I’m still not convinced. My hands go to sleep easily she said it wasn’t my heart causing that. I don’t know.

Hello everyone, my name is Ayan and I'm 28 years old. I have been going through the ongoing chest pain which moves around and goes to the back(sometimes) for the last 10 months. I went to ER 3 times, they did chest X-ray, EKG(probably 4 times) and found nothing suspicious. They relieved me asking to find a primary care doctor for proper diagnosis. So, I booked an appointment with primary care and he did a LIPID PANEL test (the results looked good) and asked me to put ICY HOT (pain relieving) cream on the chest areas that hurt. I used it for a while and found out that it gives temporary relief but the the pain doesn't go away. Also, if the pain is like 7 or 8 out of 10 it doesn't really help. Then, he did a bunch of tests like MAGNESIUM, HIV-1/2 AG/AB INITIAL SCREENING, HEMOGLOBIN A1C, COMPREHENSIVE METABOLIC PANEL, CBC, HELICOBACTER PYLORI ANTIGEN and the results looked good for each of those tests. He also asked me to take FAMOTIDINE but it didn't really work. He is sure that it is non cardiac given my symptons and sent to Gastroenterology dept. So, the doctor from Gastroenterolog dept asked to take Omeprazole (40 mg) for 2 or 3 weeks. I thought initially the pain was a little less but to my surprise I was was experiencing the same pain I used to have. Then he asked me to take Iberogest(purchased from Amazon) 20 drops with water 3 times a day but I couldn't take it for more than 3 days because I felt heaviness, pressure on my chest/stomach and more pain. He then changed it to FD-gard (over the counter medicine) but again didn't help much. In the mean time, I did an endoscopy So, during Endoscopy they found a small lesion in my gastric antrum and they have sent it out for biopsy and the result was benign. They also recommended to do an Ultrasound Endoscopy to get better pictures of the lesion. I did that too and they said it is too small now (like 1.5 cm) and they won't cut it until it shows growth. They advised me to repeat the procedure in next 6 months. They also said that this MIGHT NOT be the reason for your chest pain. So, now the doctor thinks that the nerves around the esophagus and the stomach might cause the pain and I'm taking despiramine (10 mg) daily for the last 5 days He said he will increase the dose every 3 weeks and it takes time to kick in. As of today, I am not sure if it is helping or not because last night only I had severe chest pain which got relieved this morning (not completely though but moderately). I'm not sure what is causing it. I am still so young and it's been a while now. I'm looking for some good advice/recommendations/treatment. Thank you for reading my story out.
