@tb123 Hi, I think it’s best you talk to your Dr because everyone’s situation is different. Mine was mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation causing me to have a valve replacement. That’s not the same for everyone so your dr should guide you of what you need to do. I wish you the best in your situation.

I had mitral valve repair 4 years ago. I was 74 then. Was in intensive care for 5 days and came home to to an empty house and took care of myself. Believe me, this surgery was easier than my shoulder surgery 2 years before that. There is no real pain, just hurts. You will have many restrictions but you will manage with a gripper to pick up things. Maybe you could get Meals on Wheels or someone to help with food. Good luck, my friends. Prayers help.

My experience was similar to yours@mikaylar. I had a mitral valve repair 5 years ago. I was in the hospital for two weeks after surgery. Came home and managed okay. I didn't drive or lift anything more than 3 pounds. Friends took me grocery shopping or picked groceries up for me.
I was also caregiver to my husband who has Alzheimer's Disease.
When I was younger, I had knee surgery to repair severed ligaments and it was way more painful.
