See the lecture on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWBPr-zZI44 It talks about what can be seen on an MRI near the end of a 55 minute lecture to medical students. You will learn a lot. The title of the lecture is What has changed in PMR since 1957 of something like that.
I was diagnosed with PMR 35 years ago and prednisone (P) was a miracle drug. I had normal lab valued, but within 6 hours of taking P I was a new man. I have been on and off of P for 35 years, mostly on. Currently I am on 2.5 mg P and Kevzara. The Kevzara seems to be working, but I am still stiff.
I was diagnosed with PMR 35 years ago by a rheumatologist at the first appointment without any lab tests since without knowing what PMR was I recited all the symptoms of PMR as if I was reading out of a text book. "Pain for no reason throughout my shoulder girdle and hip girdle and fatigue." The rheumatologist put me on 10 mg prednisone a day and within 6 hours I was a new man. When my blood work came back everything was normal. Even my wife could see the difference even though I didn't tell her what had happened. I have been on and off prednisone, mostly on, for 35 years. Since 35 years ago I have see 5 rheumatologist. The second one said that I was doing so well that he didn't feel that he could Rx anything better. The third rheumatologist examined me for an hour and 40 minutes, one one one, and at the end said "I don't think you have PMR, but I do not know what you have." The fourth rheumatologist again didn't feel that changing anything would help. The last rheumatologist thought I had spondylo arthritis but after a few different Rx has me on Kevzara and now I am on 2.5 mg of prednisone planning to go to 0 mg in the future. The story of my PMR is even more complicated that stated here, but I do have time or room to recite it.
