I am 73 and had to go off Metformin because it was affecting my kidney functions. My endocrinologist has put me on 1.5mg of Trulicity with no side effects.
We were told by a liver specialist that metformin can cause liver cancer & my daughter’s dr. Took her off of it. She on a liver transplant list because of non - fatty liver. Be careful.
After taking metformin for a while, I reached the point where I couldn't even eat a cup of soup for dinner.

I was on Metformin but it caused my kidney functions to elevate. Doctor took me off them and put me on Trulicity injection once a week. So far no increase in kidney functions.
I was on Metformin several months ago to reduce risk of my MGUS progressing to multiple myeloma. I am not diabetic.
I did “okay” until the dose was titrated up to 1500 mg a day. Then disaster hit. My blood sugar doubled; I had horrible abdominal cramps; my blood pressure soared to dangerous levels - 180/100; 200/105; etc..
I stopped the drug but it took more than a month for my body (and my mental health) to recover.
I have been on my foreman for 15 years and I have had no side effects I can honestly say that it helps with my diabetes
