Metal and gritty feeling in the mouth/tongue

Posted by Kdawn @kdawn32, Sep 25, 2017

About 3 weeks in I talked to my Advanced certified nurse practitioner about my mouth having a weird sensation as if I had bitten down hard on spoon (I had not). It happened several times a day. Overall this went on for 9 weeks and include my jaws aching. On week three I saw the nurse who's response was UGHH stop talking about that. Helpful, not. It did stop but now I have a gritty feel all over my mouth, jaw, tongue, and the aching is still there (grittyness 24/7, aching periodically through the day). Anyone have an idea on how to better explain myself or how to get the doctors/nurse to realize this is not fun? I have an appointment to see a new doctor, but could not get in for almost another month. I also have a regular scheduled dental appointment this week. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.~K

I am so glad to hear this is not just ME! I have very salty mouth with grit from oozing from gums. Forms on my teeth and gums and melts of with tongue then it’s burning and ulcers on tongue. The coating that melts off is crunchy like the mm coating but salty and burns. Dentist could not see anything, Dr sent to surgeon but I’ve made appointment to periodontal which will return to him Tuesday with a follow up. He saw nothing also but concerned. Please let me know if you have found anything out!

Hi, I have a slimy gritty feeling in my mouth and have found no relief. I had Chemo and Radiation 10 years before this started. I’m not sure what caused it but I have had it for 8 years! I’m trying to accept it but it’s the mouth. I hope you find relief 😊

I’m still dealing with it! Sorry to hear you have it and had chemo!! Hope you’re doing better. Prayers for healing!!
I have seen 8 Drs and not diagnosed. Can’t see anything! I thing it’s a medication problem.
