Mental Health, Arrhythmia, Sertraline and Flecanaide

Posted by davidtrey @davidtrey, Aug 2 10:20am

Hey all,

44m recently hospitalized with afib and cardioverted. I have been in a big rut with depression and anxiety since being hospitalized a month ago. I have partnered with a psychiatrist and my cardiologist on a safe med to support my mental health at this time. They have decided on Sertraline (Zoloft).

Does anyone have any positive experiences to share with Zoloft/Sertraline along with Flecanaide? Or Arrhythmia in general?

Thank you in advance for any replies. This forum is a blessing in times like these.

I have benign left venticle arrhythmia. No meds. No symptoms.
I needed sertraline a year ago, and it or something has been working great - good sleep, better organized, only a little depressed on waking up. 👍
Real or placebo🤷‍♂️?

So sorry to hear of your troubling issues.
One recommendation that has helped me dealing with overall AFiB/stroke issues: the common sense guidance and information on dealing with AFiB long-term in a 2021 book: The Afib Cure by Drs. Day and Bunch. Just finished it and found it very helpful as to real options most all have in dealing with AFiB-- short and long-term.
All the best.

Thank you. I think placebo always plays a role but I stared Sertraline several days ago. Have noticed positive improvements so far, if only placebo based.

Yeah. It's not supposed to start working for a couple of weeks. I'll take placebo.

Before my ablation, I had bouts of anxiety that followed my afib episodes. It also seemed that Flecanide was a contributing factor to my mental struggles. I also recommend "The Afib Cure" book. It has a lot of great information. I wish I would have had it at the beginning of my journey. I am 20 months afib free with no regulating medication. My ablation at Mayos was a game changer.

Sorry about your AFib. It came as a shock to me also. I have been on a low doze of Zoloft for about three years now and have not a problem with and think that it works very well. Good luck to you.
