Anyone have or receive care at MSKCC (Memorial Sloan Kettering)?

Hi there warriors and survivors. Anyone have or receive care at MSKCC (Memorial Sloan Kettering)? If so, what were your thoughts? Could you recommend a kind, compassionate oncologist with a go getter approach? We want aggressive treatment if appropriate. I appreciate all that you have done and continue to do in this blog. Thank you

Good morning,

My husband had his chemo consult with Dr Marina Shcherba. She was wonderful, very kind compassionate very thorough in her explanation of everything that they want to do. She spent over an hour with us and was very patient with us in any questions that we had. We both felt very comfortable with her, and she is very approachable. They always let you know that they are always there for any questions you may have. I would highly recommend her. His chemo is supposed to start in 2 weeks

My husband is currently under the care of Dr. Eileen O’Reilly at Sloan (NYC).
She will give you the best treatment for your particular case. God bless you all on this long journey.

This is so great. I think it is so important to like and trust your oncologist. Thank you for this information and good luck to your husband. My brother just had his 5th treatment.

Given that we “like” sometimes for the wrong reasons, and our lack of understanding re what constitutes excellence in science/oncology, I would gladly be treated by a dislikable, but brilliant oncologist.

I had radiation with Dr. Crane. Now tumor markers all normal. He is the best.

I have had consultation and surgery at Sloan. The care with the surgery was amazing. My surgeon is Dr. William Jarnigan. I see Dr David Kelsen for oncology. He is brilliant but also a very compassionate physician. The three things I find at Sloan are excellence in care, compassion and respect. Starts when you go in the doors.

I must agree. A compassionate oncologist that memorizes the “standard of care annals” is fine if a case is typical and one has the genes that are most studied. However if you are not in that lane, a doctor well read and well connected is a must! I’m sure MSK, Mayo, and JH have these physicians

Same here! So far I’m doing well and hope his treatment keeps working for me!
