Medicare Part F confusion

Posted by ellenotellie @ellenotellie, Apr 16 12:09am

Hello Friends, I have Medicare F as supplemented by AARP, and I’d like to know if Mayo accepts it. Everything I’ve read refers to only Parts A and B. I was assured it was the “Cadillac” plan so I’m hopeful…frightened but hopeful. Thanks in advance

@ellenotellie
Medicare Supplement Plan F, also known as a Medigap plan, is a type of insurance that helps cover costs associated with Original Medicare (Parts A and B). Plan F help pays the portion of medical expenses not covered by Part A & B. While Plan F is generally no longer available to new Medicare enrollees, individuals who became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020, may still be able to enroll. In my case, when I turned 65, I was not eligible for Part F .

Typically, if a clinic / hospital accepts part A/B, they will also accept your Part F Medigap police.

This government web site explains Medigap plans.

Please call the billing department and ask. I found them to be very helpful.

My Mom has part F and it is the best. It covers the deductible at the beginning of the year. I have part G which is the next best BUT I have to pay a small deductible at the beginning of the year, less than 200, then no more deductible.
My mom's part F is "grandfathered" in but she will lose it if she changes from part F.

@ellenotellie I have Traditional Medicare with Parts A, B, D (prescription plan) and G. I go to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and my Medicine and supplements are accepted. It is my understanding that any clinic or doctor who accepts Traditional Medicare will accept your plan. But it’s always good to check ahead of time as @roch suggested.

Thanks so much. After an hour on the phone calling the Mayo numbers who were “supposed” to help, I verified that yes…I am covered. I appreciate you taking time to reply.

I have Medicare A, B, D, and F. All my Mayo Clinic visits, including surgery, have been covered at 100% except for two lab tests, for which the correct diagnosis codes were not in my chart to justify the lab test.

A couple of times, Mayo billing did not bill my Plan F insurance after Medicare paid their portion, but Mayo resolved the issue quickly.
