Medicaid:How to determine if PD warrants starting the process?
It takes 3-4 months to get on Medicaide. How do you know when your parkinsons is bad enough to start the process? My husband has been in the hospital twice. He comes home fine and then 2-3 weeks later he progresses to be really bad.

I would say now is the time to do that. He clearly needs l I am curious as to why 2 or 3 weeks later he has to go to the hospital? In my experience, after I got my diagnosis, got put on an l-dopa regimin and I was fine. We had to work with my neurologist to fine tune the dosage. But the only time I have been back to the hospital in 3 years has been to determine if the l-dopa pump would worlk for me and set an initial dosaage, and a year later just to a "reunion" of Pump-kins to give feedback to the company behind the device about t how it was working and what additional features might be warranted. But this rapid, repetitive decline seems very odd to me. Does the doctor give l-dopa to take at home? What does he say about your husban's relapses? Why are they happening? Did you received directions about taking L-dopa pills (e.g., you must fast 2 hour before taking them and 1 hour after taking them because the digestive process will weaken their efectiveness. In some cases people who are takng l-dop also decide to take Vitamin B a,d some of the additives in supplements like this cancel out the effectivensss of the L-dopa so be sure to bring a list o f anything your husband might be taking j- including food supplements and Over the Counter drugs because there may be some interactions among them and any l-dopa he may be taking.

1 Reaction@aimeefink It can be hard to get a loved one with Parkinson Disease on the correct medication regimen and keep it up. Was your husband diagnosed recently? Why was he hospitalized?
Applying for Medicaid is not dependent on how bad your husband's Parkinson disease is, it depends on whether you have spent all of your money and need help paying your medical bills. Even if he is on Medicare, if the copays exceed your ability to pay and still have money to live on and buy groceries, you can apply for Medicaid for him.
If he is too young for Medicare, but is disabled and can no longer work, he may be eligible for Medicaid.
Like you said, it can be a complicated process, so apply now. Ask for an Intake appointment, and they will provide you with a list of all the information you need to provide. Will you have someone to help you with the application?

3 ReactionsMedicaid is for people with financial need either for home care assistance in some states or nursing home care. It is complicated of you have assets, and there are ways to facilitate the process. You do not need legal help, but you need to know how the state you live in views income, assets, savings, expenses etc. You can get hep from local social services or a facility in some circumstances.

2 Reactions@jatonlouise His medication was changed to Crexont. We are easing it in slowly. He had fallen the old medication was wearing off. I am the only caretaker. He has zero money, and his kids are not at all helpful. I work full-time and have asked them on the weekend to come spend one hour with him. It's terrible that they do nothing. I do residential real estate and have to work weekends. He is trapped in his body that won't move.
