Any info on neuroloy appointment at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville?
Hello we have an appointment on a monday end of January and we are trying to figure out a plan. We are not receiving any info from Mayo on when to arrive, where to stay, or how many days we will be there.

The appointment is scheduled only for one day, if they planned on us being there more, would it be scheduled for more or can it change while we are there?

We just don't want to be buying tickets the night before.

Any advice would be extremely helpful.

Now, to your specific questions. If possible, I suggest that you call neurology to find out more about your upcoming appointment. Have you signed up for the patient portal yet? The portal can ease communication, especially once you're on campus.

Sometimes, it is hard to know how many days you will be there. If further testing is required, I assume you would prefer to do it during this trip rather than booking a second trip. You may wish to book travel and accommodations that allow flexibility. Many of the hotels offer this flexibility and may also offer a patient discount. At Mayo, do you have to see two drs, resident doctor first before Your scheduled neurologist come to speak with you? I was also told sometimes it would be just resident doctor.

Does Mayo share the info on patient portal with other medical groups? Does Mayo requires a telephone visit for patients who are currently out of state before and in person visit?

Hi @whartonite, I am a patient at Mayo Jacksonville. I see cardiology, and endocrinology and family docs there. Everything on your portal is available to each doctor. It’s a very efficient system- and all your tests and notes can be seen by those who have access to your chart. I’m not sure if groups outside Mayo would be able to see- I’m guessing no- but the portal is easy to use and there are ways to share info and even print out some of your results now. The portal is a really great tool. Someone may call just to get an initial history? I have been with Mayo now 5 years- seen at both Rochester and Jacksonville. I did have a couple initial calls at Rochester before flying up- just to go over possible plan of care and make sure I was agreeable-and here at Jacksonville- I have had a few phone-or zoom visits as follow up for tests reviews or procedures. Your doctors and nurses are also available on the portal to send messages to anytime. I have utilized this a lot- it is really helpful for simple non urgent medical or appointment questions. I don’t know if this helps… best wishes

The Mayo Clinic model of care is an integrated medical practice, where the center of everything is patient and their needs. Your scheduled neurologist is your main physician who may have a resident doctor working with him or her. The neurologist becomes your main advocate, so to speak, and orders tests, appointments, etc as required with a team of multi-disciplinary experts, different specialties, as required by your diagnosis or investigation of a diagnosis.

Information shared with you via the patient portal is available to all members of your team. Telephone visits are not a requirement, but in some cases virtual appointments may be accommodated. Mayo Clinic welcomes both new and existing patients for virtual and in-person care in adherence with federal and state executive orders and guidance. Virtual care is available for out-of-state patients IF the provider you are seeing is licensed in the state where you live.
