Mayo MN trip and expense questions

I can only share my experience; I am on Medicare with supplemental insurance, so it may not be the same for you. I have never been charged a facility fee as an outpatient, only the provider and testing charges.

My insurance is on file with Mayo, and when an appointment or test is scheduled, an estimate appears in my portal. In my case, it shows up shortly after it is scheduled.

But if your insurance requires pre-approval, it may work differently.

If I ever decide to do a consult at Mayo, it’ll be helpful for me to know what kind of basic fees besides the usual consultation & medication & test charges one international patient will expect. For e.g, this “facility fee” which I frankly hadn’t heard of before till now.

Thanks! I’m aware of possible international patient costs. It’s just that “facility fee” seemed kinda vague. I guess I won’t know till I speak to a representative myself if I ever decide to take that plunge. London is a lot nearer as a destination since flight time is nearly half at 13 hours. However, I’m not sure if the standard of care over at the London Mayo will be similar to what is generally considered to be benchmark with the American ones.

Maybe the different locations have different fees. I know that hotels in Minnesota have lodging and sales tax fees. In Florida they did not seem so high.
I have never been to arizona.
