Many concerns about post Covid
4 days ago, I woke up with the worst aches in my bones and muscles, from the top of my head to my toenails. My temp was just under 100, my normal is 97.4. I was sicker than I have ever been in my 70yrs. I took a test and it was positive. For the next 2 days, I slept mostly. Today has been a good day, generally feeling much better except now I can’t smell or taste anything. Wonder how long that will last. And what else I should know about. My PCP only called in the script for the antiviral, which I did not pick up. I know too many people who had horrible responses from that.
So what should I be looking for in the foreseeable future?
Thanks

Rest and get enough sleep and hydration. Check with your doctor on blood thinners (covid has been associated with microclots). It is a waiting game until after you are covid negative. It is too late now for paxlovid, which is taken within the first 5 days of infection; it works by decreasing virus replication, thereby giving your immune system time to kick in (I'm 69 and took it last March). Covid in some can be asymptomatic (husband just had a minor cough) but others can be severe, and for some morphs into long covid (LC). I had fever, extreme exhaustion, low oxygen (good to get a pulse oximeter for O2 levels), and elevated blood pressure. I was covid negative after 10 days, and my LC post-exertion malaise started the next day. My LC went away after 8 months and I'm back to normal now. For some, covid hits the lungs (and in your case smell/taste). in me it hit muscles and cardiovascular.

Suenobles517,
It’s good you’re feeling better. It’s difficult to know what people will experience as they recover. I’ve read about so many different situations. I was diagnosed with post Covid syndrome even though my case wasn’t very severe. I have had smell/taste disorder since September 2023. I’ve been seeing doctors since. Currently, I’m taking Zinc and doing Scent retraining. I think my smell has improved. Most things smell right now. I think…. I’ll probably be tested again next month. I do still have a constant bitter taste and most foods aren’t very flavorful to me.
You’ll probably get more responses. There are quite a few people who are living with LC.
I lost my smell and taste for 4 days only. So grateful it didn’t go on for months. This was my 3 rd time with Covid Dec 2023. Have long Covid symptoms. Chest burning. Muscle and joint pain. Saw an immunologist this week. Testing for arthritis and other autoimmune. I take MSM and glucosamine with good relief. Dr said continue supplements if they are helping. Will continue with testing. Have not taken Plaxlovid. Had Moderna vac 1/2021. Will not take anymore vaccines. Severe reaction. Hang in there. Rest and fluids.

2 Reactions12cedar,
Thanks for info. I’m exploring those supplements. MSM sounds like what I need for my digestion. It’s a pre covid problem.
God Bless You! We were told by a nurse practioner on the COVID Unit that vitamin C, D3 & Zinc were good for COVID. Alternate Advil & Tylenol for aches and pains. We were told that the gold antibiotic for COVID with upper respiratory infections was Z-Pac when the outbreak first hit and steroids. Stay hydrated and rest as much as possible. I have had COVID twice and have long COVID. Move around when you can and then rest. Praying for you!
