Scared by mammogram results: Might be cysts, biopsy to confirm
Hello I am a lung cancer survivor: luckily, if such word can be used with cancer, I was stage 1 and two surgeries in 2023 allowed me to be Ned since then. I got yesterday the report from my mammogram and sonogram (I will never have any test done on Friday anymore !!!) and I am very scared. Please if anyone can clarify for me and share her experience I would truly appreciate it.

The breasts are heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses.
There are multiple ill-defined small distortions throughout the right upper outer breast, without definite mass.
Additional imaging recommended.
Otherwise, scattered cysts and
calcifications are stable and benign. Left breast biopsy marker again noted.
Screening automated whole breast ultrasound with standard AP, lateral, and medial views, including all 4 quadrants and the retroareolar regions of both breasts. The study is limited by diffuse shadowing throughout both breasts.
There is a possible hypochoic area with questionable internal
calcifications in the right breast at 11:30, 3 cm from nipple. Additional imaging is recommended.
A 2nd possible irregular hypoechoic area is seen in the right breast at 09:30, 8.8 cm trom nipple on the lateral projection. Additional imaging is recommended.
Elsewhere in both breasts, there are no sonographically suspicious findings.

2 Reactions@raffi @californiazebra I got back my biopsy results, they said it is benign, mostly fibrous tissue with scattered micro calcifications. They want to do another mammogram in 6 months of the same area. I am thinking because of it initially being given a BI-RADS category 4: Suspicious.

4 ReactionsThat’s fantastic!! I had my my follow up and the good news is that the two masses are cysts however there is a suspicious architectural distortion. My breast is dense too. Biopsy on December 3rd.

3 Reactions@raffi Same as what mine was, hopefully it will be the same and just be fibrous tissue especially since they didn't note any visible mass near it. I think as dense breasts, we are more likely to have that fibrous tissue and they noted it happens a lot at change of hormones (part of aging they said). I hope your dr who does the biopsy will use as much lidocaine as mine did! I could hardly feel a thing.
😆 yes my doctors are quite good with lidocaine. I think it is some scar tissue from my lung surgery. Two of the scars are right there. Of course the surgery was 2 years ago but …
