MAC fever without other symptoms

Posted by eileen86 @eileen86, 2 days ago

I have MAC and bronchiectasis. I am on my second round of Big 3 treatment for MAC.

Sometimes I get fevers (last night was 103.2) but I have no other symptoms such as coughing or green sputum. Sometimes the fevers go on for several nights (but not during the day) and sometimes I’ll have a fever on and off for a few days.

Does this ever happen to any of you? Thanks

@eileen86 Yes, I got them a lot before I was diagnosed and in my first year of treatment. Those night fevers used to be one of the hallmarks of mycobateria infections (including TB) back before there was effective treatment.

You should let your doctor know - it is possible that on round 2 some of your antibiotics may need to be changed as your bacteria may be resistant.

Did you have the fevers the last time you were being treated?

Sue, I have had fevers on and off for at least five years. I was diagnosed in 2022, joined a drug trial, was clear and then it was found again in January when I was in the hospital with RSV (yes, I was vaccinated), pneumonia and sepsis. So it’s definitely not early in my diagnosis. I am keeping my doctor informed. But it is so frustrating.

Sometimes I think it is so hard to answer certain types of questions due to not knowing all factors related to the big picture. Things like....do and did we have other chronic illnesses before BE/MAC etc, do we mask around people and out in public, do we clean our air way clearance devices as required, do we eat healthy, do we get enough sleep (recovery time) do we see a doctor that specializes in BE, do they use a lab like NJH or Tyler to get detailed results and then their is our age. With being 82 ad 9 months, myself, the body just ain't the same as it was in those early/mid years. So much to consider in our big picture of health and medical care.
Yes, often so d.... frustrating. Wish you the strength and emotional will power (that we all need) to keep at it in the big picture.
