M-spike drops drastically in 90days any thoughts?

Posted by DMD81 @dmdinapoli81, 3 days ago

I recently saw my M-Spike drop from 1.4g/dL to .86g/dL in 90 days. Also my IGG dropped drastically as well. I have IGG Kappa MGUS.
Any Thoughts?

Don’t know yet, just got the results but had a BMB yesterday and a WB MRI today. So we will see.

Did the same labs run both tests? I had 3 SPEPs done in a 2 month period. Two of them were sent out to national labs and came back 1.5. The other one was done at a national cancer center and was 1.32. I don't think my numbers changed at all, I think one test was just more accurate than the others.

You didn't mention whether this was a random drop or a drop after treatment. A random drop is obviously more suspicious.

Also, if you have trouble with issues like hydration or kidney issues those can cause fluctuation in some lab values. My sister is an engineer and always trying to define precision and accuracy to tell me why my numbers aren't changing. (I took stats too, girl.) I don't agree with everything she says, but if something looks like a big change I think it's worth retesting just to confirm that it's a real change.

I use ChatGPT to consult with as testing comes in before speaking with the doctor. In fact Chatgpt, caught a major disease, Amalydosis, when my Mayo provider missed it completely ... the provider followed up on Chats recommendations and the diagnosis was confirmed. Chat was able to catch it very early in the progression of the disease, lucky for me. I've had very good luck using this modality .....

Wishing you the best

lol I think we have the same sister. And one was Labcorp(consistently over 1.2 for 2-3 years) and the other at MSKCC (taken twice in a two week period and 3 mths back. All around .8). But my kappa(115 or 11.5) and K/L (9.99)ratio is still up.
I went to MSK because my original hemonc said I was now in the smoldering and at the time with a mspike of 1.4 and 8% BMB I knew I wasn’t there just yet, so I went to the experts.

I had the opposite problem. I knew I wasn't absorbing oral iron and my hemoglobin was dropping, but I was being told everything was fine because my ferratin is good. The hemoglobin is dropping regardless of error bars and accuracy because the ferratin is dropping significantly.

And plasma was 5-9% , which I didn't think was accurate or precise. The specialist stained for the clone instead of eyeballing it raw and came back with a value of 15% which is more precise and likely much more accurate as well.

Personally I have found that hydration can play a big role in these results. I once had my M spike decrease by 45 percent because I was probably over hydrated -- the opthamologist had said my eyes were so dry he could not do a good exam and to please go drink some water. So I did and I also took the opportunity to get my blood drawn. My hematologist asked me what happened and I told him. Ever since that time I have tried very hard to make sure my hydration at the time of my blood draw mirrors my "normal state."

@cousinvinney I do not use Chat GPT but I use Google. I have gotten excellent information from asking Google medical questions. The information is much more complete and I believe more accurate (it works) than I get from all the different physicians that I see. The physicians may identify problems but they don't always provide solutions. I plug in the problem and attendant information and very often (not always) I get a solution that seems to work. Sometimes I get information as to why a solution that my physician suggested does work.
