Lupron 24 months or Lupron + Zytiga + Prednisone for 6 months

Posted by ddl @ddl, Nov 29, 2023

I’m getting ready to start salvage radiation. I balked at the idea of 2 years of Lupron and he said that possibly I could get by with the multi-drug regime for a shorter time - like six months. First we will get a decipher test which could alter his thinking, but I’m curious if anyone else has been given this choice and what they chose.

A trial named SPPORT found Salvage Radiation and 4 - 6 mos of ADT as effective. Possibly for intermediate grade cancer.
Also I have seen a reference to 24 mos of ADT plus Radiation for aggressive cancer.
I am a bit unclear which protocol applies to which patients.
I had immediate 90 day post op prostatectomy PSA failure at .19.
My Rad Onc at Johns Hopkins prescribed IMRT radiation to the whole pelvic region (WPRT) plus pelvic lymph nodes, together with 4 mos ADT.
My final Gleason was 9.
1st post treatment PSA < .02 undetectable.
What does your Dr advise?
Best wishes for a successful outcome.

I had my salvage radiation (SRT) last year at BC Cancer in Canada. They recommended 6 months of ADT (Zoladex) along with 33 doses of radiation. At the end of the radiation, their team concluded that I did not need any further shots of Zoladex. My 4 post radiation PSA's have been undetectable < .008. My next PSA is in two weeks and I have my fingers crossed that it will continue to be undetectable.

My husband has been on Zytiga and Prednisone for 5 months. His moods are getting darker. His latest PSA test was undetectable. Should he ask his oncologist about stopping therapy? He did have advanced cancer.

I have been on Zytiga and Prednisone for 32 days. I am 68 and single, living alone. I have stage 4 cancer.
PLEASE never stop therapy!
I suffer from lack of sleep from these medications. Yes, I do have dark moods as well.
Encourage him to be with other people. Be patient, kind, compassionate, and loving. Be aware his libido (as well as mine) is very low because Zytiga stops the production of testosterone. HE IS STILL A MAN!
I will pray 🙏 for both of you.
