Kidney transplant recipient: Worried about monitoring of lung nodules
I have been getting CT scans and have been watching very small nodules grow slowly. They are so small Dr said no biopsy at this time. They could go away but with my past history 2 years ago I am very scared. I feel like a ticking time bomb. I read if caught early I have a 69 percent survival rate.
My name is Karen and I will be turning 69 Oct 3. I also am a kidney transplant survivor of 7 years.
I have nodules in both lungs, pet scan did not show active but again Dr said with being so small he wasn’t surprised. Hoping someone out there shares my same story. Thank you!

@kfn57, yes, other transplant members have talked about the need to be vigilant about monitoring for skin lesions. You may be interested in these related discussions in the Transplants support group:

Hi Karen, I can relate to the anxiety felt when having a lung nodule. I had a nodule in the Right upper lobe of my lung in 2019 & a biopsy showed it was from Wegener's disease which they now call granulomatosis with polyangiitis. (GPA, A type of Vasculitis). I had Rituxin infusions & the nodule went away. I had GPA in my kidney also but the reason I had my kidney transplant 1 1/2 years ago was from IGA found on biopsy in my kidney. Just this month I had a CT scan of the lungs & it again showed a nodule in my right upper lobe that is new. They are going to repeat the CT scan in 3 months. As my husband always tells me "Don't worry until you have something to worry about"! I know that is hard to do & not worry. As with me, lung nodules can be due to other conditions. Stay positive, be strong, you'll be ok & get through this! Good Luck! Sandy

1 ReactionYes I try hard to stay positive but with three more new ones it makes it hard but it could be as little as inflammation and thats what I am holding on too. In 2019 I to had the same diagnosis in my lower left lobe as you had.
