Lung complications with PMR?

Posted by marg47 @marg47, Feb 26 5:59pm

I was diagnosed with PMR in August of last year, not showing many symptoms. I was on Prednisolone and am now tapering and should be finished with this medication in three weeks. I also take Methotrexate once a week. During tapering, when down to 2 mg and now less, I have developed a constant cough and ultimately a sore chest and the aches and pains and fatigue are sometimes debilitating . I use Ventolin in an effort to alleviate the cough but it doesn't always help. Has anyone else had similar symptoms? Your comments would be appreciated.

Hello @marg47, I think I would contact my rheumatologist or primary care doctor and discuss your symptoms. There can be a connection with lungs and PMR. Here's some information on the topic:

"Respiratory symptoms, including dyspnea and cough, can be easily overlooked and attributed to the patient's immobility and generalized muscle weakness. Physicians should have a high index of suspicion when a patient with PMR presents with respiratory symptoms to rule out any lung involvement."

Thank you for your reply John it's very much appreciated. I shall certainly contact my rheumatologist and inform him. One other thing I am feeling is 'the shakes'. My arms and legs!
Again, thank you.

Check out your other medications for those side effects too. Ventolin can make you shaky.
