Lung Air Trapping or something else?

My 26 year old daughter is a profession athlete/runner and is scheduled to run at the Olympic trials in June.

In Feb 2023, she experienced a severe breathing problem when running at full speed and was diagnosed with something called lung Air Trapping.

She had multiple tests done including CBC, IgE, Inhalants, Pulmonary function, CT Chest WO Contrast, CBC with Differential and Comprehensive metabolic panel. The tests showed slight increased white counts, which dropped back to normal over a 2 month period. The blood test allergy workup she had done did not show any significant allergies.

She was put on Advair (which made her sick), replaced with Dulera which she took for about three months. The doctors she saw in NYC couldn't make any other determination as to what the cause might be.

She lives and trains in Flagstaff and competes all across the country throughout the year.

She was running fine and mostly back to normal beginning in June of 2023, and then suddenly yesterday the symptoms came back, in exactly the same manner it had previously... when she runs at full speed, she suddenly is unable to breath, has chest pain, and even vomited this time.

She is lost a to what to do next. Do you have any suggestions?

I would look for Exercise Physiology lab, any Kinesiology deoartment through universities. I did my undergrad in SFSU, see link below. It would be good starting point to get some data whats happening physiologically while she is running. @mrpaulwass .
Good luxk !

Thank you very much @lenchiksf, I didn't know there were physiology labs and I'll research finding a lab closer to her in Flagstaff, maybe in Phoenix 🙂
