Lung Abalation or surgery?

Posted by varg4258 @varg4258, Dec 26, 2024

Never smoked in my life. I had lung resection surgery before to remove two nodules. Found two more nodules on the CT scan last week.
Details:
Increase in size of a 0.9 cm left upper lobe nodule, previously 0.5 cm
Stable 0.3 cm left upper lobe nodule.

Is Lung ablation the best approach or another lung resection? Not looking forward to more radiation or surgery.

Any alternative treatment? Mistletoe as a treatment? Any other helpful suggestions to remove adenocarcinoma or prevent from coming back treatments?

Please recommend some lung ablation doctors in Mayo or any other hospital. Any online site reviews for Mayo doctors ?

I have had 1 nodule treated by regular radiation and 2treated with SBRT since 2017 at Mayo. Also had breast cancer with lumpectomy and treated with radiation. All on right side. I’m scheduled for Ablation for 3 more cancerous nodules in right lung on Tuesday at Mayo because I cannot have more radiation in same area. My ablation is being done by bronchoscopy. Nervous but hopeful.

That is very interesting. Ablation by bronchoscopy is new. I have had photon SBRT and had radiation induced pneumonitis. Now cannot do more of it so I am scheduled for proton SBRT.

I wish you good luck with your next treatment. I was never offered either Proton or Photon for any of my treatments at Mayo Jacksonville. I have had a lung biopsy using bronchoscopy but I understand this ablation is pretty new. I won’t do regular lung biopsies because of a pneumothorax problem.

I’m having a lung ablation for 3 (1.7 cm, and 2-10 mm) nodules via bronchoscopy ablation this Tuesday. I’ll let you know how it goes. This is a new treatment for me.

I'm just hearing about ablation. My surgeon made such a big deal out of "micromets" that don't show up on PET/CT's? Does ablation address these prior or during the actual procedure?

@nancyg25 where will you be having this done? They didn’t mention it to me just surgery at Mayo. Good luck!

Wishing you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do. I have my lung biopsy on the 25th and it has been so helpful to read what other's are going through and what methods of treatment they decide on. Thank you .

My ablation has been postponed. All 3 nodules have gotten a bit smaller (I didn’t think that was possible) so we decided to do more investigating. I also found out I was to have PEF ablation which I believe is brand new. I’ll keep you posted. Confused!
