Lunesta for Sleep. Anyone With Experience With It?

Posted by dfb @dfb, Feb 2 1:22pm

In the never-ending quest to overcome the sleep disturbances that have been with me since I was prescribed Venlafaxine (I've been off Venlafaxine for three months), my provider has proscribed Lunesta.

I hate taking more medication. But I need to sleep. It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to treat depression and anxiety if I'm not sleeping.

I'm going to give it a shot. I'm curious if anyone else has been on it.

Mirtazapine did not help me at all.

Thank you, for your comments.

Lunesta. Took it years ago. Tried and true worked on me. Had to stop when there was interaction between two other meds which one I could not do without. All and all, until that time it was a good medication. also, don’t drink caffeinated beverages after 1pm. Eye mask and quiet or white noise. These things help me. Also wind down at night. Create a ritual. Hope this helps you.

I’ve been on it for about three months and like it a lot. I have had insomnia all my life. Stopped Ambien cause it only worked to get to sleep, not stay asleep. Thing I like about it is it feels like real sleep and not the knockout fake sleep from Ambien. I dream on it and go through all sleep stages, as per sleep focus on my Apple Watch. Don’t like having to take sleep meds but after no sleep for 4 months after stopping Ambien, it’s a necessity now. I get about 4-6 hours from it each night.

Unfortunately Lunesta did not work for me. In fact it kept me up all night despite me trying all of my usual tricks. Right now magnesium, valerian root and ibuprofen seem to be helping. I slept six hours last night. Of course my provider just restarted venlafaxine, so who knows what is doing what. I am waking up with crippling anxiety, so there’s that.

What a mess!

Lunesta is working better for me than Ambien - side effects from it were morning nausea and daytime anxiety. I don't have those with Lunesta. I do wake in the night - anywhere from just once to every few hours. These are for bathroom breaks, night sweats or leg cramps. Gratefully with Lunesta, I can fall back to sleep pretty easily and my dreams are back!
