Lubiprostone for IBS-mixed
My Gastro Dr has prescribed Lubiprostone 8mcg 2x day for INS mixed. I only take it once a day. It upsets my guts and causes diarrhea. Does anybody have any experience with this med? Should I continue to take it?
Thank you!!!

Sorry - IBS (not INS)!
It did nothing for me. It was supposed to help my constipation.

The 8 mcg dose did not help me at all. The doctor then prescribed 24 mcg which I take twice a day. It definitely helps. However, there are days when it’s not working and I will add some other otc medication.
If you get diarrhea and upset insides you could discuss it with your doctor.
Thank you for sharing your experience she started me on 24 mcg but it was
way too strong. Even at 8 mcg it still causes me to fe sick. I am wondering
if it just doesn’t work for me.

You are right- this medication doesn’t seem to agree with you. Everyone does not react the same to any medication. Trial and error.
There is another similar drug, Linzess, that I tried but it had no effect on me at all.
There are many ways to control constipation, some old and some new. You may have tried some of them already.
I used to do well with Miralax and fiber drinks but not now.
I add Senokot now and then- sometimes that doesn’t work either.
I hope other members will post to share their experiences.
I took it for two days and on both days ended up so nauseated I couldn't stand up without feeling I would vomit. I stopped taking it as I was incapacitated by the side effect and it didn't provide any relief from my constipation.
Thank you so much for your response. I will mention Linzess to my Dr. I
have a history of anal cancer and surgery/treatment. Didn’t have any
problems prior to that (2012). All they’ll say is that I’m constipated but
I think it’s more complicated than that. Frustrating.
That was my experience with the higher dose. Not as bad at the lower dose
but still makes me sick.
Thanks for responding to me. I appreciate it.
Did it work for you?
Unfortunately, no.
