Low platelets (ITP possibly) and meningioma: Anyone had both?

I'm 79 years old. Told I have itp about 3 years ago . My other test are normal so they are treating as ITP.
I also have a meningioma diagnosed 7 months ago. Going for second MRI this Wednesday. Concerned about my plattlet count if I need surgery . The lowest mine has been sofar is 108. I have read that this should be high enough. As we get older I guess we just have to face our bodies are tired. Ism also taking care of my husband who has dementia and peripheral neuropathy. I am 77 and have had meningioma, picked up on a scan about 4 years ago. Thankfully it hasn't grown and hasn't required treatment. I have high platelets ET. And also being treated for recurring melanoma. Hope your meningioma stays steady too.

Hi Cyndee. You sure nailed it with your comment, “As we get older I guess we just have to face our bodies are tired.” That’s the truth! ☺️

As you’re already aware, ITP (Immune thrombocytopenia) is an illness which can cause a person to have lower than normal platelets. Since platelets are responsible for helping blood to clot, you’re concerned that there might be a bleeding issue if you require surgery.
Your condition isn’t unique and your surgical team will know how to handle the situation. From my understanding, some patients may require a platelet infusion if platelet numbers are too low. While others are able to go ahead with surgery but receive platelets after the operation. The lifespan of platelets are short so the timing is important.

Have you talked to the surgeon or your physician about your concerns?
