low libido, fatigue, anxiety, brain fog

Hi! I'm new here and looking for an answer. I am looking for the best thing for possible perimenopausal symptoms. I have terrible anxiety, brain fog, dry itchy skin, tired all the time, joint pain, I can't sleep good, I have no appetite, and my libido is GONE. I am on birth control and have been for 30 years. I take Seasonique that allows me to have a period every 3 months. I work from home and this has not helped with the depression. The anxiety/depression and libido issues are my main concern. Has anyone else had these symptoms and if so have you taken anything that has helped??

I can’t offer any advice, but I would research menopause now, early and find out your options, like HRT. There are some good videos on you tube with noted female urologists who talk about menopause and what women should be aware of regarding their pelvic health. It’s shocking what women are not told. There are some threads about it around here as well. Gynecologists don’t necessarily help provide proper information to women either.

I hope you can find answers and help with your issues.

Thank you! I will do that. I have been to many drs and I'm getting no where. My husband wants me to go to his dr but I am afraid they will only put me on Testosterone and not consider my female needs. I even went online to Myalloy and tried to get something thru them but its a joke too. They are just suggesting birth control which they know I am already on or stopping birth control to take something else, which isnt an option for me. I appreciate your information!

Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect!
You sound quite miserable!
You mentioned that you have been to many doctors- have you had all the hormones tested? Including the thyroid hormone. As we get older it seems that many have lower levels of thyroid hormone, which can cause some of the symptoms you mention.

yes, all bloodwork is normal. No dr wants to test my hormones but when I demanded it my hormones were less than 5! All but one dr - I have been to 4, said it was most likely due to my birth control and that I would have to come off of that for 3 months and have my labs tested again before we would really know. The one dr that wanted to help said she thought I was perimenopausal and gave me Addyi to help with my libido but it was almost $500/month with my insurance so I could never get it filled. She has since moved and is no longer here for my care. I just had my thyroid tested again last month due to all my weight loss and it is still normal. And yes, I am pretty miserable.

It doesn’t sound as if the doctors that you have seen are very knowledgeable of hormone testing.
We often recommend that you see a specialist at a large university medical center. In your case I think you should try to get an appointment with an Endocrinologist. I don’t think it’s necessarily peri-menopause - you shouldn’t feel so bad.
Would you be able to visit a large university medical center?

Possibly. I am trying to find an endocrinologist close with good reviews. The one I found had terrible reviews.

Definitely sounds like your hormones are out of balance, all signs of decreased estrogen, progesterone, & testosterone. I would suggest an Integrative Medicine doc or even better, a Naturopath, who specializes in Women's Health ...someone with a tried and true record of success; don't allow your general practitioner to manage this. I would also not suggest have injectable hormones. Have your FSH, TSH, Estradiol, Progesterone, Testosterone levels checked. Western Med physicians will want to put you on an anti-depressant & synthetic hormones .... good luck and continue advocating for yourself. Changing your diet by decreasing or eliminating bad carbs/starches (bread, rice, etc) and sugar helps with menopausal symptoms such as interrupted sleep, hot flashes, increased core body temp, etc.
