Low iron caused by bronchiectasis & MAC?

Is Low iron common in patients with bronchiectasis and MAC? If so, what is the root cause of how this occurs?
I have taken a prenatal vitamin with 100 % daily iron within the vitamin for years but my iron is at 16 ug/dL. I have had two exacerbations in the last 3 months where I had to go on an antibiotic. My internal med doc is going to prescribe me with some prescription iron and redraw labs in a couple months and then recommends iron infusion if Rx iron did not help.

If you have what is called a high sed rate or high C reactive protein blood levels (these two tests measure in a way inflammation) you can "appear" to have low iron but there is some mechanism whereby it hides...don't ask me more! It is called anemia of chronic disease and in this case you would not take additional iron. Maybe ask your doctor what tests to do to rule out this kind of anemia before taking additional iron. It's not wise if you have anemia of chronic disease. My iron level has fluctuated when my C reactive protein level was high indicating inflammation. You can google 'anemia of chronic disease' so it is explained better.
