Low IgG and low IgA

Does anyone else have a low IgA and low IgG? What are your symptoms and what do you do for it?
I was diagnosed with it and don't know much about it. I got it because of my short gut syndrome.

Thank you - absolutely right! I have monthly IV for the very low IGg and it’s helping so I get blood tests and see hemologist each time. Well watched. I have the Kappa marker mostly and not too worried at that 1%. At 78 and so many issues I won’t live long enough - one plus! lol ( ps I don’t LOOK as ill as I am and don’t let it beat me - often ).
Keep smiling!

I have 0 IgA (genetic) and consistently high IgG. There is no tx for IgA deficiency -- unlike IgG deficiency. I do have to have the immunoglobulin levels monitored at least annually to make sure I'm not developing CVID.

It depends on how low the IgG is. If it’s below the lab reference range and you also have low IgM or A or both then the next step is the vaccine challenge to diagnose a primary immune disorder that is often common variable immune deficiency (CVID). The key with CVID is the inability to build an immune response. This is normally done by creating and keeping antibodies that normal people make whenever they are exposed to illnesses or vaccines. The vaccine challenge uses the pneumonia vaccine. First your antibodies to the vaccine are measured and then you get the vaccine. Four to six weeks later the antibodies are measured again. If someone fails to create less than 50% or so antibodies then that is considered a failed response and CVID is often diagnosed. But a key part of the diagnosis is that you have low IgG without cause. There are circumstances where IgG is temporarily low like cancer treatment so that would rule out CVID. When people don’t have enough IgG with one other low Ig they are very vulnerable to fighting infections because IgG is your main immune antibody. The treatment is infusing IgG blood plasma either through an IV or very tiny needles called sub-q. It takes about 10,000 donors per infusion and is close to $10,000 in cost monthly. Because of that insurance companies may want a strong history of infections before they approve the treatment. What was the catalyst in having yours measured?

My IgA is 1 my IgG is low but not extremely low and my IgM is in the normal range.
My low IgA and low IgG is because of my Short gut syndrome. Plus I found out that my mom has low levels also.

I haven’t seen any research that correlates low IgG with short bowel syndrome. Was this done at birth? CVID can be genetic. If you’re constantly sick you might see an immunologist.

Short gut syndrome was from a bowel obstruction surgery.
I am luck I don't get sick very often. It seems that the years that I have gotten the flu shot a few days later I end up in bed for several days, but I didn't get the flu shot for 2 years and I haven't been sick since.
