Low blood pressure

Posted by nyj @nyj, 2 days ago

I'm on blood pressure meds for the last 15 years I'm 70 year male the last 6 months my pressure is 130 / 57. I exercise 45 min a day use no salt don't drink. I'm worried that my bottom number is so low what can I do to increase it?

I don't know how much you know about your condition, so maybe what I have offered above is old news to you. If it helps you to situate yourself, great.

You'll get other responses, ideally from those with the same condition and with some experience. Good luck!

@nyj I just read that normal is 60-90 so you are close! Do you have symptoms? Do you hydrate well? Do your meds need adjusting? I hope you can talk to your doctor to either get reassured or make adjustments.

I am 70 y.o. female. I do not take blood pressure meds. I have had low blood pressure for as long as I can remember. One time it was 85/35. I couldn't get off the couch. Normally it runs about 90/60 to 100/70. However, I have to eat large quantities of salt to maintain the higher pressure. If I don't get my salt in the morning I have symptoms. I also have to eat salt throughout the day but especially at night. My sodium and chloride are in range on my blood tests.

Might want to have the doctor adjust your meds or if he doesn't want to do that, maybe eat more salt. If you don't eat salt how do you get your iodine? Have you had your blood checked for these? I like my blood workup every 6 months.

I have heart issues that were found Sept 2024. Ascending aortic aneurysm with enlarged root and SVTs. I stopped caffeine and my SVTs got less frequent. Plus, I self referred to Mayo and went there in Dec. They gave me a lot more peace of mind then my local MDs. They answered all my questions.

I am a kidney transplant recipient completed 5 1/2 years, 71 yrs and do yoga/speed walking daily, last few months have I have experienced low BP to 100/50, one of reasons for this was low bp was dehydration and then it was over hydration as I was beginning to lose weight. Had to cut down 1 BP medication and limit my water intake to 72oz ( body weight is important in figuring out the right amount of water my weight is 141 lbs). It took me nearly 3 months to get stable.. I am glad the low BP syndrome is behind me ... as my quality of life was going downhill. Wish you the best.
