Low antibodies

Posted by ksue3 @ksue3, 10 hours ago

A Dr. outside of my breast cancer team ordered some lab work and discovered I have low antibodies. I know that can happen with chemo, which I completed in March of 2024. It seems to be staying with me if that is the cause. Can be other things as well. Been referred to the Med Ctr. for an Immunology consult. Don't have that appt. yet. I just had Covid again. Anyway, have any of you had this lab abnormality? It really isn't a routine lab test like for an annual Dr. visit. I am trying to not freak out but my husband died of leukemia and I don't like anything abnormal in my lab work.

Hi ksue3,
Yes, I have very low antibodies. (Low IGG) I have what is called Common Variable Immune Deficiency. (CVID). I had this prior to both of my breast cancers, many surgeries, many infections, and many cases of bronchitis, blood infections, cellulitis and also pneumonias. I have been seeing an immunologist for 11 years. Every day I infuse 1 gram of immunoglobulin (Hizentra). If you have an immune deficiency, please research the best insurance that you can afford. Immunoglobulin is very very expensive, but it can be a lifesaving drug.
Please just take this one step at a time. Please ask a lot of questions of your doctors once you get the result of your labs. I know it feels overwhelming, but it can all work out.
I am thinking of you.
Let us know what you find out.
