I had right eye cateract surgery 10 day's ago. I'm using eye drops properly and I don't understand why my eye hurts and stings 11 day's later...is this normal. Do I now have dry eye? Is this all normal.. everyone I spoke to before surgery said there's nothing to it. There's a lot to it for me anyway ..I'm miserable.

I had cataract surgery 10 yrs ago and I don't recall my eyes stinging afterwards. Maybe a google search might provide some answers...good luck !

Thank you for quick response. The nurse did say I could try artificial tears but since this is all new I'm going to pharmacy and ask which are the best. So strange I felt better 5 day's ago. I truly believe the steroids they make you use is the cause.

@debbiedeb57, I had some minor burning after my cataract surgery on July 29, however it only occurred for the first couple days as I was healing. I am sorry to read that you are still experiencing this after 10 days. I also wonder if you have spoken to the doctor who performed the procedure. Have you called the office? We’re you provided with a phone contact number?
I will have my 2nd eye done tomorrow morning. I had a pre procedure appointment last week and will have a follow-up on the day after my procedure. Then I will have an appointment in a week.. I was prescribed drops for 4 weeks and was told by my doctor not to use any other drops while taking the cataract drops.
Have you had any follow-up appointment with the opthamologist who performed your cataract procedure? If not, please call and request one. Your vision is a gift that is too precious for self treatment. Will you make a call to the doctor tomorrow? Will you let me know what your doctor suggests to help you?

Hello, yes I've had 2 followup appts with Dr. He said everything looks good...he changed my eye drops to this one. About 9 yrs ago I had narrow angle glocoma...the right eye apparently was thicker than left so that eye I suffered after procedure. The left eye was easier for Dr to get through. I really think that's why this right eye is just super sensitive to anything. The sting is still there after using drops and I can't wait to be done with drops. Thank you so much for caring.

I had my 2nd cataract surgery yesterday. I am at the beginning of my 4 week regimen of drops.
The drops on this eye don't sting at all. They did sting a little on my first eye for around a week.

How long do you still have to use the drops?

REPLY

I have to use for 14 more days. I'm on 2x daily then once daily for final week. I will be seeing my regular optometrist in 2 weeks. The sting is much less...it's so true every one has different experiences with eye drops. Also, everyone doesn't have the same shaped eye which is what was explained to me. I was a tough patient per surgeon.

Did you have glaucoma surgery too ! Also Any chance you used moxyfloxacin after surgery ?

I had narrow angle glaucoma 10 yrs ago...which angles were opened with laser treatment. I never used moxyfloxacin before. The burning pain went away last week but I still need drops 10 more days.
