Losing weight

Hello all,

Last September 13, I had tripped and got a CT Scan of the head, and the result was, while there was no injury form the fall, is that I have a new set of micro clots in the brain. So doctor ordered MRI to find out more details. I had TIA in 2016. I got the biggest scare since at that time, the only logical cause of clotting would be blood sugar. I really stayed away from softdrinks, all sweets, even cut back on rice and ate strictly 2 times a day, mostly protein. I followed the doctor religiously(intermittent fast), walked 10k steps a day and used stationary bike every other day. I felt some side effects on dehydration due to fasting but that is a given and tolerable. My weight was 155lbs in September, today it is 143.5 lbs (morning waking up) to 145 lbs or I lost 12 lbs in two months. I am unsure if this is ok weight loss or am I losing weight at alarming rate. My blood sugar improved by the way due to the lifestyle change.

Struggled with weight problems for last 20 years (I am 76). I can lose weight but comes back. It seems to me I can gain in very quickly but hard to get off now. I have, and am, going through some stressful times and use that for an excuse to snack. Or should I say seeking and using comfort foods to feel better. My meals are not the problem it is the comfort foods during snacks.

Are you working with your primary care doctor? It sounds like it. If so he/she can guide you on amount of weight is safe for you. The norm is 1-2 lbs a week but we all know we want more than that. However doctors will tell you if you go more than that the body says WOOOW and starts to fight weight loss.

If you lost 12 lbs in 2 months you are doing great and right on the recommendation amounts. You are NOT losing too much weight again the norm is 1-2 lbs. So you are right there.

What I do see is a very strict regimen on eating. And if you are fasting doing strenous exercise can really affect you as you don't have an carbohydrates in you. I went on a special diet one time by a physician and advised me NOT to do my normal physical workouts but to cut back during the low calorie (600 for day) diet.

I think the exercise regimen you have is very good. Because of my weight stalemate my primary care doctor wanted me to add to my exercise routine is weight training. He says will build more muscle and that muscle needs more energy thus more calorie burn.

I do a lot of aerobics exercise 2-3 hours a day but weight became stagnant. I was told as your body adapts to the exercising you do it adapt to the exercising, by becoming more physically fit and you don't burn as much calories as you did before. Thus my primary care doctor recommending I do weight training. ALWAYS though check with your doctor before doing so. He works with a professional runner. She does marathons. Her calorie burn during marathon is 85 calories an hour. That is how fine tuned her body has adapted to her exercise and fitness level. 85 calories an hour would be something a sleeping person would burn.

I think you are doing great and you are NOT out of the recommended weight lost. But I would asked your medical advisors to give guidance on diet as for long term that maybe hard to stay with.

Thank you for your kind words and I wish you all the best of health as well. I hope the time I reach your age I can also be functional. Just be careful on the snacking and I know you know the right food to eat. Thank you so much my fasting and exercise made me from obese last year 180 lbs to my ideal weight this November at 145 lbs.. It was a scary journey. Take care always

@jfching My first concern would be the micro clots. I assume you are still seeing a neurologist. Does he/she think that the logical solution to your clots is blood sugar as well? Losing weight is great for everyone, especially diabetics. However, self diagnosis may also be harmful to your current condition. It would be interesting to hear what your endocrinologist has to say. At any event, you may wish to work with a dietitian to help with the weight loss.

I thank you and the members of this forum for your concern. Yes I was with a neuro and I am on meds.. the microclots are because of a mild stroke in 2016. MRI was done and that was stable. We are monitoring and I am on blood thinner so that it would not grow. You are correct that diet is essential in all of these as I need to have a lifestyle that will not encourage artherosclerosis. Thank you once again for your reply. The replies of the members are helping me tremendously as I need to avoid anxiety pills though 2022 incident of heart failure made me traumatized at best. I am trying to overcome that as on the extreme, I am oversensitive to all sensations happening to my body and thus becoming weak. I googled different ailments list pooping, colon, eye, liver, kidney diseases which cause me anxiety 🙂
