Long Term Rental advice for Families - Mayo Clinic Rochester MN

Posted by sharongolonka @sharongolonka, Sep 13, 2023

My daughter (25) and I (64) will be looking for housing in Rochester MN - either long term or permanently. She has a complicated medical history, childhood cancer and recently diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I anticipate she will need surgery to repair a closed valve as well as address multiple strictures in the small intestine. I have chosen to take her to Mayo Clinic due to the reputation and excellent patient care. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am originally from Chicago so familiar with the region but do not have a support system in place at this time. Thank you very much.

Hello @sharongolonka. Rochester has many options for extended stay lodging options. One place that may meet your needs is The Berkman; it has both hotel rentals as well as apartment rentals. It is located across the street from the Saint Marys campus and will also have a shuttle that can bring you to the downtown campus as well. They have many great amenities for their guests too (ie: fully furnished, underground heated parking, kitchens with full size stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and dishwasher, outdoor heated pool, sauna, patio, yoga studio, golf simulator and dog park & spa).

The Berkman 217 14th Avenue SW, Rochester MN 55902 (507) 237 5626

Do you have an appt at mayo yet? Before starting to look for place to live, I would go to first appointment and see what provider suggest for treatment plan.

While in Rochester for your appointment, you can investigate places to live in your price range. Rent is expensive in Rochester, but guess that depends on where your coming from.

@sharongolonka I stayed for 6 weeks with the Serenity House Network. The rentals are located at a variety of locations within a mile or two from Mayo Clinic. The prices are very reasonable. If I needed to stay in Rochester for a long term I would stay with Serenity House again. They were wonderful to work with and providing housing to Mayo Clinic patients is a mission for them.

@sharongolonka, how are you and your daughter doing? When will you be traveling to Mayo Clinic?

We are arriving on Saturday 9/30 and going to be moving there. Her appointment is in December, however she will require ongoing treatment for the rest of her life.

Thank you,

Sharon
