Long term HU and hair thinning

Hello!
Can anyone share how long you’ve been taking hydroxyurea (HU)? If you experienced hair thinning while taking it, did you find anything that helped reduce the thinning or helped your hair grow back? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and what worked for you.

Hola, yo tomo hace 13 años y tuve aumento de caída del cabello y adelgazamiento.
Estoy usando minoxidil tópico y me está dando muy buen resultado.

HU x 8 years, age 72. Some hair thinning the first few years, which was ok, as my hair was always thick. It also got curly on HU initially. My hair guy says it's thicker now, less curly. So my sense that hair was thickening was not just in my head (just ON my head, hee).

Yes. Amino acids. I was diagnosed and began HU in February 2024. Hair started coming out in clumps. Someone had said amino acids helped with MPNS so I started some that summer. Wasn’t taking them for my hair, but within 2 weeks I noticed that my hair was no longer falling out. It had gotten so thin. Then my hair started growing back, frizzy at first but it has calmed down and gotten thicker again.
I use Doublewood brand Essential Amino Acids that I order online. Maybe they’ll work for you.
There are certain amino acids that are good for hair growth, including some that are in this supplement.

Did you check with your hematologist about taking it? I take so many meds I am always so cautious.
Thank you, Eileen
