Anyone have long haul covid that affected their stomach and back?

Anyone have long haul covid that affected their stomach and back ? I had Covid October 15, 2024 my symptoms never subsided until December 2024 . I had body aches and stomach issues where I could barely eat. So in December most of my issues went into remission except for lower back pain . Then on March 4, 2025 my stomach issues came back with a vengeance, worst than the first time . It is so hard for me to eat and when I do it is so painful . Has anyone else experienced these kinds of symptoms?

My doctor prescribed Pantoprazole for the same thing, it helped me a lot with the same symptoms. I canā€™t afford not eating because Iā€™m very thin and this problem made eating almost impossible, I used drinks like Ensure and Boost to get some calories. I donā€™t know if thereā€™s any treatment for this problem, I had some tests done and nothing showed up, I have some other symptoms from covid but the I think it might just have to run its course because nothing ever showed up in the many tests Iā€™ve had. I hope that you find some help with your stomach and maybe the medication I mentioned helps you feel better or perhaps your doctor might have something else to help you, good luck.

Hi @fayda. I hope you find the helpful answers here as so many of us have. So many types of stomach and back pain in usual situations then add the post covid unusual new types of pain🙃 If I may suggest looking into food reactions/histamine intoleranceā€¦. I use to eat anything before long haul covid and now I experience many different types of reactions/pain to many foods, spices, drinksā€¦and some here have commented even react to different types of water ie tap vs bottled etc🙃 Keeping a food/reaction diary I found well worth it to verify my issue histamine related. Now I at least have a chance of knowing if it contains for instance cinnamon or spinach I will pay the price in ways I choose to avoid it! Health systems are becoming more aware of this and providing specialized nutritionist thru post covid clinics. Wishing you quickest recovery🌈

Hello . Thank you for the reply . Did the Pantaprazole help with the pain and nausea and are you able to eat better on it? I know what you mean when you say this problem makes it almost impossible to eat ! Any type of food that hits my stomach I feel very nauseous and my stomach gets to be in a lot of pain . I have been for many tests too and there is nothing to be found . I can't afford to lose weight either so I can see where the boost and ensure come in handy . What are your other symptoms, if you don't mind me asking . I too wish for a speedy recovery for you . Thank you again for all your great information.

Youā€™re welcome, I basically had a lot of nausea so I used Gravol which helped me a lot, back pain too but I wasnā€™t sure if it was related to my stomach issuesā€¦my heart rate was also very fast after covid and I was tested for that too but no definitive answer. I felt that the stomach pain was bad because it stopped me from eating and thatā€™s never good for keeping your strength, the medication I mentioned was a life saver for me so that I could eat again but with most medication thereā€™s always a down side, Pantoprazole does cause bone mass loss which I have so I try to supplement with calcium, itā€™s not perfect but you do the best you can to keep going.

Thank you again for your quick reply . Unfortunately I'm allergic to gravel so I can't take it . It's unfortunate that Pantoprazole causes bone mass loss šŸ™ How long have you had your long haul covid issues ? Mine started on March 4 2025 .

Hi , Thank you for all your suggestions but unfortunately it's any kind of food that hits my stomach I get pain and nausea . I currently drink distilled water throughout the day and put electrolytes in the water along with a bit of sea salt . I'm currently seeing a Functional Medical Practioner and a Naturopath . The Functional Medical Practioner gave me a bunch of products to take that are supposed to help the gut . I'm in Canada and looking for a Post Covid Clinic but haven't had any luck so far . How long have you had your symptoms for ?

I got covid in November 2022 and I still have symptoms but some have stopped and new ones come along, now I struggle with my eyes, I wear a mask when Iā€™m in crowded places because I donā€™t ever want another episode of Covid, it truly is much more than just another virus.

Hello again , So you have been struggling with long haul covid symptoms since November 2022? I'm sorry you struggle with your eyes now ? How is your stomach now ? Did that symptom go away ? Yes I hear you . When I go to appointments I wear a mask as well , as no one understands this dreadful virus and what it can do .
