6 months long Covid- no taste or smell. Any new ideas?

I have been diagnosed with post covid syndrome and have multiple symptoms , including taste and smell disorder. I have not only diminished taste and smell, but distorted taste and smell.

After seeing a neurologist, I’m returning back to the ENT doctor, who specializes in smell/taste. I have no idea what to expect. I just read an article about this one doctor who treated it with saline drops (I have tried that), zinc supplements (tried that too), as well as meds like Gabapentin. (I tried that for a couple of weeks)
I have read about injections into the neck, as well. I don’t think people understand how stressful this can be. I’m preparing to start taking meds for depression / anxiety. I also want to try acupuncture . It’s wearing me down. I’m into it for 3 months now. It seems much longer.

You too. Having total loss would be especially hard. At least I can still taste and smell some things.

Update! My therapist just recommended a Dr, who specializes in hypnosis therapy for medical conditions. I have called her office and left a message inquiring about the details. I’m so excited! I’m trying to manage my expectations, but this is great news. I had asked my neurologist about this option months ago and he had no referrals.

I will! I hope she or someone in her office can assist me ASAP. And, I hope it’s not too expensive. It’s not covered by my insurance. Her office is about a 2 hour commute (roundtrip), but I’ll gladly do it.

Well, Celia, you are not alone…I have long haulers as well, with no taste or smell since last December 14th! I can tell you that it is awful! I am seeing an acupuncturist and have had more than a dozen treatments, still no taste/smell. I have an appointment with a new ENT next month and am hoping they will be able to find a reason. I take many supplements, as I also have a low thyroid and take Synthroid and Cytomel to treat it. I was told by my dermatologist, and she also said, “I’m a doctor and I shouldn’t be telling you this”, but smoke a cigarette! Apparently, Nicotine is suppose to help get your taste and smell back. Who knew…! I haven’t done it yet, as I’m an x smoker, but I may try the Nicotine patch, of which I’ve already purchased a box, but am waiting as my neurologist suggested. My patience is running thin as well and at this point, I just might try anything. I wish you a happy holiday and a healthier new year!
