Lobectomy and challenges in recovery

Posted by lynda4548 @lynda4548, Feb 5 9:09am

Hi! I was diagnosed with lung cancer stage 1A. I had an RUL lobectomy October 15. I have put on 13 lbs and my abdomen is so distended it feels like I will explode. It feels like I have a belt around my chest that gets tighter every day. I cannot bend over to even pick something up off the floor. I have pain especially on the right side and also an area that feels hard. I have trouble breathing so they put me on an inhaler. My waistline has increased by 11 inches. My mental state is failing. I am embarrassed to be seen in public. My clothes no longer fit I am buying clothes to hide my belly. I have been complying to all the doctors and they take an X-ray but say I’m okay. I’m NOT okay. Had anyone else experienced this and what was the reason and how long did it last? I need to do something I cannot go on this way.

Thank you. I guess that’s what I wanted to hear. Someone experiencing exactly or close to what I’ve been going thru. I’m now seeing. Gastroenterologist who had scans done and I M really having problems with my bowels since surgery. They now have me on meds and I think they are working. I’ve lost 2 lbs since I’m happy about that. And yes everyone in my care team tells me I need to walk. I hate walking but I will do it as soon as weather gets better. I hate the cold. I never could do pushups so I won’t try lol. At 77 yrs old I’m not going to start now. Thank you for your response. It made my day.

So Gad I could help make you feel a little better, or at least give you a bright spot in your day! Even if you dint want to walk outside, do laps around your home. Even if its small! It keeps you moving and you will look forward to going on a new walk when you decide its time to go outside. Lisa had a great idea as well. Here in AZ, there are tons of people that walk the malls here. In the winter because of bad weather and especially in the summer when it’s 100+ most of the time. You may also meet other walkers there and they keep each other motivated! Good Luck and Good Health to YOU!
