Living with Neuropathy - Welcome to the group

Welcome to the Neuropathy group.
This is a welcoming, safe place where you can meet other people who are dealing with neuropathy. Let’s learn from each other and share stories about living well with neuropathy, coping with the challenges and offering tips.

I’m Colleen, and I’m the moderator of this group, and Community Director of Connect. Chances are you’ll to be greeted by volunteer patient Mentor John (@johnbishop) and fellow members when you post to this group. Learn more about Moderators and Mentors on Connect.

We look forward to welcoming you and introducing you to other members. Feel free to browse the topics or start a new one.
Let’s chat. Why not start by introducing yourself? What concerns would you like to talk about?

I am caretaker for an 83 year old. She is very functional but I do all the shopping and most of work around the house. She recently had a pain pump put in and is actually doing a lot better. Had to change the drug once. She also has a neurostimulator for years which definitely helps her. She is doing better with the pain pump. Getting up more and doing more. It isn't for the neuropathy but the back and seems to be helping somewhat. She takes Gabapentin and is diabetic. I am very glad to have found this support for us.

Hello @sunlily25, I see that you have already connected with @swamplady who has been away from Connect for awhile. I would like to welcome you both to Connect which is a great place to learn from the experiences of others with similar symptoms/conditions. The Neuropathy Support Group has many different discussions that you might find it helpful to scan through here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/neuropathy/. If you are looking for some specific topics in neuropathy, you might want to click the search and type in a few keywords to locate discussions and comments that are more specific to what you are looking for.

Another great resource for learning about neuropathy is the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy - https://www.foundationforpn.org/therapies/. They also have some great webinars that are easy to listen to. Here is a list of their past webinars - https://www.foundationforpn.org/past-webinars/.

@swamplady and @sunlily25, do you mind sharing a little more about your diagnosis and symptoms and the different treatments you have tried?

Thank you. I have fiber neuropathy from cipro toxicity. I get pain up and down my arms and legs and feet. They also get numb. I get spasms in my head and whole body even my ears. My knees buckle when I walk. I’m taking some supplements. Not sure if they are helping.

Good morning.
I have been feeling tingling and burning of my feet at night. I understand that this may be a sign of neuropathy.
I have recently viewed a Dr Halbert explaining a natural supplement called Arialuef that supposedly stops neuropathy.
Not sure if this is a scam or not. Would you be have an opinion on this?
Thank you

Welcome @londonont, I'm not familiar with Arialuef but anything claiming to cure or stop neuropathy is a big red flag for me. While there are treatments that can provide some form of relief for neuropathy, there is no cure. The only caveat I know that can fix neuropathy is when a nerve may be compressed and you can find a treatment/surgery that reliefs the compression on the nerve. There is some good information on different treatments and therapies on the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy here - https://www.foundationforpn.org/therapies/.

There is another discussion that you might find helpful:
-- Treatment for burning feet and ankles: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/treatment-for-burning-feet-and-ankles/

It sounds like you are not sure of a cause or diagnosis. Have you seen a doctor or neurologist for the burning symptoms?

Not knowing anything about Dr. Halbert I would be afraid to say but generally speaking: Scam is my default opinion on anything I see or hear tell of these days.

Does anyone have an opinion on ablation surgery. It is the go-to for varicose veins but in searching Google AI, et al. says it can be very effective for neuropathy. My nurse practitioner highly recommends it. Thoughts anyone? Thanks. Caleb
