I may be wrong but the immunotherapy (eg. Keytruda) will follow after completion of the chemotherapy (however there are evidently many different permutations as to how these treatments are given).
In my situation I also had a 5.3 cm tumor that was removed by surgical removal of the right lower lobe. My tumor was EGFR positive so the treatment regimen was cisplatin and pemextred as the chemotherapy then followed daily by oral treatment with Tagrisso. Chemotherapy will usually involve cisplatin, carboplatin or some other platinum based drug given by IV infusion over 3-4 months. Chemotherapy can be a challenge……it can take a toll on a person but everyone is different as to how they respond. The oncologists are well acquainted with all the possible side effects and how they can be managed. Take notes and ask lots of questions!
Thanks for the reply, since his tumor size was 5.3cm , surgeon said he will need chemo.. . So both Immunotherapy and chemotherapy are given at the same time ?
Hello Sharwi85,
Hopefully your husband’s surgical recovery goes well. Being PSL1 positive probably means Keytruda immunotherapy is in his future……your oncologist will provide good guidance on that.
Best of luck!
That is great to hear, I am so glad to hear that can actually happen... I am new to this group and also brand new to adenocarcinoma lung cancer. I am exploring options at this point, although current advice is to wait 5 months until next CT scan to see if there has been growth....I have requested targeted radiation but met with hesitation as the word was that side effects from the radiation not currently worth the risk..i would appreciate how the shrinkage occurred - radiation?

My husband has been diagnosed with stage 2b lung cancer, 2 weeks back had lobectomy(left low lobe), now referred to medical oncologist, he is pDL1 positive and HRD positive.
So glad for you. I wish for the same.
Thank You!
Merry Christmas and Happy Year!
Prayers for everyone!
Yea!!! Merry Christmas!
@sura- Life sure does tax us at times! I am very sorry for your husband's passing.
I wish you the best with Mayo Clinic. I use another hospital because I live in New England, and we have Mass General! I was even there once when Teddy Kennedy was hospitalized.
Take care of yourself this holiday.
Merry
