What is the probability of.receiving liver transplant with MELD SCORE 12 at age 70.
Can it be managed by beta blockers or tips or shunt surgery?

@jaimedavis93, I received my transplant at Mayo Rochester! Are you in Rochester? It is a fantastic place to be, we were there for 11 weeks abd stayed at the Gift of Life House.
I hope the appointment for the MRI will give your team useful information to manage your current situation. Please keep us posted.

I wish I would’ve known a lot more information before I had my liver transplant 2 years ago there are many factors getting one and even getting on a waiting list. I was at USC/Keck hospital in Los Angeles and they are awesome. I was considered near death and stage 4 kidney failure and I waited 4 months any longer I wouldn’t have been here. I was going to write a book about it someday

@pgruetz, Isn't it great to have trust and admiratation for your transplant team? We would not be here without them. They are the heroes among us!

After your difficult pre transplant, I read that you are now 2 years post liver transplant. That now makes you an expert...an expert by experience. What is something that you wish that you had known before your own transplant that others might benefit from?

I didn’t realize the length of recovery which wasn’t as long as I was told I went back to work after 6 months as a plumber and felt great to be able to function again . I had to learn how to walk twice and at 64 wasn’t expecting that but it motivated me even further. My biggest concern for anyone getting a transplant make sure you have a advocate that has power of attorney that is 100% behind you, unfortunately my whole family failed me even my kids but my fiancé was and her family too . I was near death so everything was given to her in case because I was in extremely bad shape. After my surgery I had a stroke, seizure, brain bleed, collapsed lungs, and a coma for a few days, make sure all paperwork is in order is my advice, my surgery was 13 hours which isn’t normal, anyone that can deal with the magnitude of this I give great credit to , praise all your doctors and nurses especially any chance you get because I was in ICU for 6 months, To this day I’m amazed how they do it

@pgruetz, You have been on quite a journey. And in spite if all if the complications you were made it to this day! I must commend you and I admire your strength and determination.

I think that your suggestion for everyone to get their legal affairs in order by someone that you can 100% trust is extremely important. And, if I might add, - don't put it off.
My husband was /is my advocate, and he was faced with some very difficult decisions. Fotrunately, he is a good planner and we had arranged everything and communicated about everything before my own condition deteriorated.

I want you to know, that your story is going to be seen by someone, who needs to know that all things are possible. If you are comfortable to share, How long after your transplant was the stroke, seizure, lung collapse? Was yout liver transplant team part of this episode?

First of of all thank you , so when I first went into the emergency room thinking I had Covid which it wasn’t I was given 5 days to live and the doctor said get all your stuff in order which was in may , the following January i had my transplant and my hospital kept me alive to get one and a ambulance ride to usc/Keck so right after my surgery is when I had my stroke ,seizure ,brain bleed, coma right after surgery I woke up days later , I had wires in skull and after all the anesthesia I was koo koo for awhile, I also lost 60 lbs and was very weak , but after all that the only way was to go up and recover with a great attitude, I recommend not taking oxy it’s horrible the only pain medicine I still take is Tylenol that’s it . I have to take Keppra for quite awhile and if I don’t I lose my driving license because of seizures.
