Has anyone had acid induced asthma? I have a chronic cough. If I drink something cold it makes me cough or if I talk that makes me cough. After I start coughing is when somethings shuts off my airway. I’ve been on several different cough meds but that doesn’t help. Anyone?

I'm guessing the cough is being caused by acid reflux and not asthma. The esophagus gets irritated by the acid, gets raw and causing coughing. I had that especially at night.

There is a direct correlation between asthma and reflux.

There is a network of surgeons who do the LINX procedure as well as the Nissan. I was fortunate to have one working out of the hospital I worked in. So it was an easy referral.

As far as the asthma symptoms go aspirating into your lungs can definitely cause bronchospasms. It may not necessarily be asthma but the symptoms can be similar. There is a correlation between reflux in infants and the development of asthma later which is what I believe happened to me. My Mother told me I would throw up constantly as a baby and by the time I was 4 I was diagnosed with asthma. In my 30's when the hernia became too large I would wake choking and wheezing like crazy and my throat would feel on fire. Hang in there and don't give up. You have to be your own advocate.🙂

How do I find a surgeon that does the LINX and also Nissan? I live in southern Oklahoma. But since I fell in June or July on my stomach. I’ve been coughing, and acid coming up the, asthma and been put on meds for asthma but that makes it worse..bad taste. But the test for acid didn’t show anything. I can’t convince the doctors to do something for me. I can’t hardly breathe and wake up choking on acid. When I can sleep. If you or anyone has suggestions I wld really appreciate it.

Try linxforlife.com and if you have it done check out :Eating After Your LINX Esophageal Surgery at nationaljewish.org. My surgeon was awesome but she's didn't give me a lot of info for post-op rehabilitation.

I have not lived in OK since the late 70s when we were at Ft Sill at Lawton. I remember many small towns. We had to go down into Texas to get eyeglasses. Things have changed a lot.. our last visit there was in 2008. Lawton was much bigger.

What test have you had done? What type of drs have you seen? Is it brown acid? or is it in the form of clear or white mucus? Both will burn, but the brown is worse. Does a liquid antacid.. like Mylanta or Maalox help?

I have been so busy with my mama that I have not looked at Connect very much so am behind on a lot. Still things going on with mama and I will be in and out. I will try and look through your post and see if I have some ideas other than what is posted.

I am very anxious to hear more about this procedure. But I am glad to know someone else does not take the PPis. I have been telling drs for years I don't want them because I already have severe osteoporosis. I take Nexium for a few days when things get very bad. I have had GERD and swallowing problems most of my life. I have had many endoscopies and stretching. They finally sent me to a speech therapist which has helped some. Just today my dr told me to quit taking the PPi but because it causes dizziness which I have had for over a year. She told me to use Zantac and Tums. I do want to hear about this Linx procedure. I will read up on it and see what else you have to say.

I too am interested in Linx procedure. I have read many people who have had it with mixed reviews. Some love it and some people are having LINX removed. I have Barrett’s esophagus and do not take ppis anymore. I am on Pepsid instead. I was on PPI for 14 months to heal a large ulcer. But it started to affect my kidneys. I have to have another endoscopy to see if I have dysplasia from the Barrett’s esophagus. My LES sphincter is not tight so I need to make a decision. There’s many different options. LINX is one of the newer ones.

I am very happy with my LINX band. Every so often I have trouble swallowing but it is no big deal. End of January it will be a year since my surgery. For me it was a medical necessity. Nothing was stopping the heartburn. I was on PPIs for over 24yrs and at the time if my surgery I was double dosed on prevacid and zantac. I was also using carafate liqiud left over from my radio frequency ablations for 8 cm of Barrett's that had some low grade dysplasia and I was also using OTC antacids. I spent 7 months after surgery weaning of the PPIs to avoid rebound acid production. Here are some resources; Eating after LINX Esophageal Surgery at nationaljewish.org and linxforlife.com, Physician Locator. Good luck🙂
