Linx procedure for severe GERD, Is it beneficial?
Hi everyone! I hope everyone is feeling well. I've posted once before regarding Botox injections to the Pyloric Sphincter. Today I would like to hear from those that have either heard about or have had the Linx procedure for severe GERD. I'm going to raise the topic at my next appointment with my GI specialist. When I went in to get the Botox injections about a month and a half ago my GI specialist stated that my GERD was severe and that she could visually see the acid/reflux free flowing back up into my esophagus, like it was something she stated she hasn't seen very often. Since being diagnosed with GP and Vagus Nerve Dysfunction my GERD has become a nightmare! Currently I take Zantac syrup twice daily and Prevacid ODT twice daily and these medications just aren't helping anymore. I have to sleep upright in a recliner to sleep and am unable to lay next to my husband in bed because if I do he is waking me up because I'm literally choking on the reflux. I avoid the foods and drinks I'm suppose to and I quit smoking. Does anyone know if the Linx procedure is minimally invasive or a noninvasive procedure? I thought maybe it could be done by endoscopy. Any ideas, information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your responses!

Hi, I know of people that have very successful Nissan and Toupett Fundoplications. I was also hoping to go off my PPI'S since I had been on them 12 + years and all the side effects.
Bc of my failed Toupett Fundoplication 3 years ago, it has been a nightmare. I developed severe upper regional chest pain since week one. My surgeon was in complete denial that the Toupett was causing it. Admitted to the hospital and went through a complete heart work up. My heart was great! Thank you God!
My surgeon still refused to do a reversal or help in any way.
I was hospitalized 3 more times in attempts to find the pain. My pain was and is so debilitating, Percocet is like taking a Tylenol.
Finally 9 months later I found a wonderful surgeon willing to go in, repair my hiatia hernia and remove scar tissue from old surgeries, hoping that would alleviate the pain. We gave it 2 weeks and he scheduled me for the reversal of the Toupett Fundoplication .
I had relief for about 3 weeks and the pain began to return with a vengeance.
I found out that I had gastroparesis, probably from damage to my vagas nerve.
Began with the GI team over at USF Tampa and went through every test and scan possible.
Also, a G-Poem for my gastroparesis.
A G-Poem is a procedure done on the spinster of the small intestine to widen it by making incisions around the spinster to allow food to go into the small bowel
A Poem is a procedure done on the spinster of the esophagus.
Just wanted to clarify the 2 procedures.
Anyway, I'm almost 4 years down the road and rhe pain in my upper abdominal region has only gotten worse. If I have any upper movement for over 20 minutes, I feel the most debilitating pain, have labored breathing, break.out in a sweat and am bend over the pain is so severe
I was just referred to The Mayo Clinic but their appointments are 3-6 months out. My doctor is looking for another specialty clinic as I type this.
Would I recommend having a Toupett Fundoplication? I guess that decision is alone for you to make.
Good luck and God Bless!

I Have post operative gastropanesis.. the result of a Nissen fun. failure .. that was in 2015.. the damage to the hairnet like nerve system that empty the stomach were damaged... they do not regenerate.. there is no reversal.. every meal is a challenge.. now 85 years old.. I wanted my local surgery group to be skilled but they couldn't even figure out what they did wrong.. mayo Minnesota figured it out in a day and gave me a way to cope..

1 ReactionHi Ken.
Thank you for commenting. What are your symptoms and how did The Mayo Clinic give you ways to cope?
Thank you, Victoria
I've written several times about my ways of coping... but after I lost 50 pounds the GI people started with making me aware that small amounts cut up very small and eating very frequently recognizing that the blender, knives, chewing, gravity has to take the place of what the stomach used to do.. sleeping, napping must be done at least a couple hours after eating.. then never lying down using a regular pillow .. I use a foam wedge with a couple pillows on that.. or a recliner for naps. If my upper body is at rest at a 30 to 45 degree angle.. I drink Pedalyte.. Kefir, coffee in the morning.. I don't eat leafy salads, rarely cabbage or broccoli unless in a blended green smoothie..

1 ReactionI'm so sorry! I was diagnosed 6 months ago with gastroparesis and it's not a good way to live. There are 2 meds arrithomycian and reglan. Unfortunately I can't take either due to my heart. Eat small meals, low carb, low sugar. I was 82 pounds I had a feeding tube. Please reach out if you like. God bless you 🙏
I have just joined the Mayo site because I am looking for the best way to deal with my acid reflux. I suppose it is GERD. I do not have heartburn. My symptoms are a cough with mucus, sensitive throat, constant clearing my throat, and my ears are now also affected. I am partially deaf with the sound echoing in my head as though I am on a flight and landing.
I have tried all the PPI's and other medications but they don't even help. Does anyone have similar symptoms and found a way to get rid of this horrible problem.
I feel best in the morning..as my stomach accumulates food I feel worse..rarely any sharp piercing papain.. vomiting is not painful..

1 ReactionMy G.I. doctor seems to feel some of these procedures are experimental but I know that Robert Wood Johnson did a clinical trial reply views and followed patients. Does anyone know more about this and locations that do it it looks like Nyu might. I’m in the New York metro area. I don’t know if Mayo does it. I also wonder if there are certain specifications for being a good candidate. I have failed peristalsis, limited or low les fucioning (Weak) and I 70. The trial may have been done with younger Patients limited to hernias.
Yes, ask your doctor about domperidone. This was the answer for me. It kick starts the stomach to do it’s job and completely digest all the food in the stomach. This along with sucralfate, a chalky substance that coats the esophagus and protects it from acid reflux has worked so well for me. I agree with you, PPIs are not the best help, however I do take one twice a day.
