Can anyone share their experience and outcome of Methotrexate treatment for Lichen Sclerosis? I’m in second week. Thank you.

I have VLS and am on methotrexate for something else.
My LS was under control with clobetasol prior to starting the methotrexate. I haven’t noticed any benefits from the methotrexate to my LS, but I’m glad there may be an additional protective effect on top of the clobetasol.
The methotrexate is working for the other condition, and I plan to continue with both treatments.
I’ve only been on methotrexate for five months, so there’s always a chance it could still do something for the LS down the track.

2 Reactionshow do you use two different medications (clobetasol and methotrexate) for LS within a week, do you switch off?

1 ReactionI have lichen planus. I took methotrexate for 2 Mos and took myself off. I've never had a medicine affect me so adversely. I was so tired all the time I could barely get up and down. On top of that I had nausea so badly I couldn't eat or drink. I stopped taking it and my life went back to normal. I've used every cream and now I'm on an ointment called desoximetasone. It is wonderful. I have oral and vaginally lichen plants. This med is for vaginally. I was at the end of my rope before doctor at UNC prescribed it. I also took folic acid with the methotrexate. I wish you much success

2 ReactionsI had a similar experience and stopped using. I've had excellent results with just Lisepten products for many years now.

1 ReactionI took my first dose Sunday. How are you tolerating it?
I’ve been taking zofran for nausea. My liver enzymes have spiked so my next dose has been cut in 1/2.
@lww thank you so much for sharing! I am also being treated at UNC for the same LP - oral & vaginal. l’ve been using clebetasol ointment for vaginal flare, but I feel like it is too harsh for my body. What cream do you use & do you feel that the desoximetasone ointment is helpful? I’m also curious how you are managing OLP. I have been using dexamethasone swish & clobetesol ointment, but even using a soft bristle toothbrush can be harsh. Suggestions?
@ddn methotrexate is an autoimmune suppressant

1 Reaction@chasity50 I really feel your pain. For the oral I use rinse called chlorhexidine gluconate and dexamethasone. About 8 years ago my periodontist suggested I stop using toothpaste and only brush with oral b electric toothbrush. Which I did. I added the use of arm and hammer baking soda as my toothpaste. This combination helped so much that I could manage with the chlorhexidine and dexamethasome. My gums and roof of my mouth are the worse area. Oral has been under control for 5 years. Bout 1mo ago I had a flare up that was really bad but I've been diligent about care and it is getting better. Never cured just bearable. The vaginal has been unbearable for so long I'd forgotten how it felt for it to feel better. Not cured but bearable. I could not use clobetesol at all it just seem to get worse. The desoximetasone ointment that I'm using when I get up in morning and before going to bed at night. I use nothing but water to clean with my fingers. I've tried so many things. Every cream. Creams seem to make it worse. Something I discovered by trial and error trying to get some relief. I have a very soft washrag. I would get it very very warm and insert it around the vulva and hold it for 2 minutes, I would really eased the pain and swelling. I don't know if you have pain and swelling and itching but I really do when it is unbearable. The desoximetasone is the best thing I have used yet. It takes such a small amount. I put it on one side and then the other. I mean a really small amount on each side of vulva.
Hope this helps a little. I've been trying to find it this is hereditary. My mother had it, My sister has it and I have it. Some say yes some say no.
