Levaquin Side Effects Anyone?

Posted by covidstinks2023 @covidstinks2023, Jan 28, 2024

Precious Folks, I have been on Levaquin about 4 times since last summer for upper respiratory infections inclusive of sinus infections, asthmatic bronchitis, pneumonia & the flu. I finished my last dose on January 14th. I know what my normal aches and pains are....this is new.

I am now hurting in my joints more, burning in my hands and having pain in my hips, down the sides of my legs, the soles of my feet, the palms of my hands, fingers, toes and headaches have worsened. I can't sleep very well for the pain. I'm going to get an appointment as soon as possible to see if this has been caused by Levaquin or is something else going on. I have had Fibromyalgia for 28 years & Arthritis, but, this is all new pain.

In my research, these are all symptoms for about 14% of the people that react to Levaquin.

Anybody else have any of these issues? Thank you and God Bless.

floxed in 2013. not warned by the prescribing doctor, of course. i had a sinus infection.

after taking the drug, i experienced excruciating pain. dissociation. felt like i was being tortured.

called the doctor's nurse, she told me they saw this all of the time, and to take ibuprofen.

an uphill and exhausting battle. all of this, from a drug that was overprescribed for a sinus infection.

13 years later, i've lost my health, my career in architecture, and am at wit's end.

i just had a biopsy for small fiber neuropathy last week.

the medical establishment and the legal establishment have been gaslighting me the entire time. this drug is widely used and very profitable for big pharma. the generic drug manufacturers rigged the system.

i am a shell of my former self.

@needfl0xhelp hello. I’m sorry to ask questions, but you are the only person I’ve found after researching for this with the same problem. When I got prescribed this I was terrified and did not want to take this, but as I had an infection for coral I felt like this was the only thing I could take as the previous antibiotic didn’t take it away. I asked my doctor about the side effects with tendons, and he said it was such a low percentage of happening that I shouldn’t even worry about it. When I called back on day 4 before I went to the er, I had called his office that morning to ask about the side effects I was having and he said it wasn’t from the medication, and that it was from the infection and to continue taking it. (I now know it was obviously from the medication) I took it thinking it was the only thing left to take, and the downward spiral started from there. I’ve been given Naproxen, and now cyclobenzaprine. I feel that’s only a pain management and not a fix for whatever actual effect this medication has caused. I’m not a doctor but I can only assume it’s cause nerve problems for me. But both doctors I’ve seen haven’t brought up anything about my nerves. I’ve tried to be normal again, and go out to lunch, or even drive but then by nighttime I’m in so much pain and feel horrible. I can’t stand in the shower still, or even stand or walk long enough to make myself food, or go get myself water. Some days I can and some days I can’t all over again. All of this experience has been so humbling even though I’ve tried to stay positive about it.

I was wondering what effects have stayed for you? If you still have a hard time walking, or if your legs still feel weird and heavy, or if it’s just pain that’s stayed for you. Also what type of doctor you’ve seen for this issue that knows about this? Because all I’ve been getting is pain management and this has terrified me that nobody believes this medication can do this, or almost doesn’t believe me, or is willing to talk about this. Nobody has looked at my muscles or even brought up nerves like I’ve seen from looking online, but I’m not a doctor but I don’t know what to think or do lol.

Thank you for finding this and taking the time to reply to my comment.

I once found website devoted to sufferers of this drug...

I always remind my pulmonologist that I have a bad Achilles tendon when he starts talking about giving me Levaquin. No problem— he finds something else.

I am sorry you are having so many problems after taking this medication.
I took my last dose and 2 days later my shoulder started bothering me. Just sore at that time. Never had shoulder problem in that arm before. 2 days after that my legs just above my ankles started hurting. It progressed up to my knees. The muscles were like they were drawn or contracted. I could hardly walk by myself. I had to be assisted up and down from sitting. I could not move my arm. 3 weeks later I am still in pain. My legs are better but my fight knee is like the bone is shifting in it. My right shoulder and down my arm causes me excruciating pain. Dr said it was from a small tick bite. I haven't had test for tick disease but it does present with same symptoms. Had a MRI on my right shoulder and had some fluid build up in it and my biceps. Along with degenerative changes. Shoulder never bother me before. I didn't get the tick bite until my shoulder started getting sore. I firmly believe it very possibly could be from the levofloxin. Do u have any idea where we go from here because I have almost lost the use of my right arm due to pain on movement and I can't stand for very long. My husband has to do most all of everything. I hung up clothed and i hurt so bad when i went to bed i cried. I am lost for who to turn to. What do we do?

@rnursechar2, I am so sorry you are battling this. I'm wondering if it's a combination of the tick bite and Levaquin.

Often the painful side effects of Levaquin can go away.

Were you tested for Lymes Disease from the tick bite? It can present the same pain as
Levaquin.

Do you have an Infectious Disease doctor in your area? That would be where I would
start or a Rheumatologist to check all your inflammation markers.

Praying for you and your husband right now. Blessings & Prayers.....
